Glad you enjoyed it. Have only played the Blue Course at USAFA once; beautiful and challenging (especially the greens). I found the greens at Eisenhower much harder to read than those at The Broadmoor. If you get back to the area, other courses I recommend trying include Bear Dance in Larkspur and Four Mile Ranch in Canon City. Both have great vistas, memorable holes, good conditioning, good pace of play and are moderately scoreable.

Broadmore green fees: $280 and $225
Bear Dance green fees: $95
Four Mile Ranch: $50
AFA Blue : $45

You are right, the Blue Course greens are really hard, but the price is right. Might try Four Mile Ranch next time thru.

Thank you for your service to our country. For civilians like me, AFA Blue is $83 with cart -- when I can coax an invitation from a serviceman. Still a great value.

Annika Clark wins her quarterfinal match, 3&2. Semi-final round will be this afternoon. Opponent is U. of Houston senior Allie Anderson.

Edit: Annika was 2 up thru 16 but Anderson won 17 and 18 to square the match, then won on hole 20. Tough way to go out.

Angela Stanford shoots a Sunday 65 for a backdoor T8 finish in Ohio today, picking up 21 Solheim Cup points, which I think pushes her from 12th to 9th in the points standings (top 8 qualify). Next two in the Rolex Rankings also make the team; Angela will be close when new rankings come out but I think she'll be just outside the cut on that list as well (Lizette Salas was at 45th and Angela 54th entering the week). Two tournaments left to qualify, Scottish and British Opens.

Edit 1: Angela now 10th in Solheim Cup points standings and 50th in Rolex Rankings. Those set to qualify via Rolex are Brittany Lincicome (42nd) and Lizette Salas (46th). Angela moves ahead of Mo Martin (53rd) and Austin Ernst (54th) but would be the first player out if selection happened today.

Edit 2: Stanford and Martin are both in the field for the Ladies Scottish Open this week; Salas, Ernst and Lincicome are not. All of them are in the field for the British (major with double points) the week following.

Valentine Derrey, TCU alum, has won twice this year--in three starts--on the Ladies European Tour Access Series (LET's developmental tour).

The native of France, has been playing on the LET since graduating from TCU (2011, I think), with her highest finish in the Order of Merit being 7th in 2014 (with a win).

I think she has full status on the LET proper, but that tour is on the rocks financially and has cancelled 5 tournaments this season, so the players have to play where they can.

This week, she's in the Ladies Scottish Open with fellow Horned Frog Angela Stanford. Valentine is T68 after shooting +3 in the opening round, Stanford is T14 at -1. The difference was entirely due to the last two holes, which Derrey played in +2 while Stanford went birdie-eagle.

Article on Valentine's 8-shot win earlier this year:
http://letaccess.com/news_article.php?id=3642&pid=1001

Blog (in French and English): https://valentinederrey.wordpress.com/

Valentine's hometown is Biarritz, where the biarritz green originated. If you've ever played one, you'll remember. Here's a site with just about ever biarritz green ever designed: http://www.friedegg.co/golf-courses/the-biarritz

Not TCU-related but Fort Worth related. Some Frogs may know Fort Worth pro Clark Dennis. At Nolan in the 80s he won a couple of Texas Catholic league state tournaments, then played for Arky & SMU before a pro career spent mostly on smaller tours. Not much to note beyond a T6 in the '94 U.S. Open.

So it surprised me yesterday to see his name on the leaderboard of the Senior British Open. Turns out he qualified for the European Senior Tour and has posted three top-five finishes this year, standing 9th on the Order of Merit. At Royal Porthcawl he lost a little ground today but is still T11 along with major winners Couples, Watson, and Lehman.

If he could have putted just decently, he would have won the 94 Open at Oakmont. Tee to green, he was better than just about anyone that week.

Looks like JJ is going to miss the FedEx playoffs this year, just outside the top 125 on tour as its currently projected.

Unless I am mistaken, I think that means his tour card might be in jeopardy next year.

Per Golf Channel, he was at 123 this past week (start at 0:55 on this clip). It's likely that a couple of people will pass him this weekend. I think there are four events remaining before the playoffs start. He'll need to bank another check or two to qualify for the playoffs.

But I think his 2015 win at the Barracuda Championship buys him an extra year of tour eligibility. So says this tour site:
http://www.pgatour.com/news/2017/16-17-eligibility-ranking.html

So I think he's safe for 2018.

That site also says that 126-150 are priority-level 30, so that carries some status, but everyone between 126 and 200 are entered into the Web.com tour's "Finals" series (which replaced Q school a few years ago) along with the top 75 Web.com finishers. The top 25 Web.com players going in are guaranteed a tour card--the other 125 players are competing for 25 additional spots based on finishes in four fall tournaments.

His Barracuda win only got him 2016 and 2017 cards. So 2018 would be up in the air.

You are right though, he does have two events left. I'd say making the cut twice should help him out tremendously.

Thanks, my service was as a DOD civilian teacher working overseas for 25 years teaching kids of the military at bases in Puerto Rico, The Netherlands and Germany. The best perk of that job has been getting a retiree's ID card which allows me to enter most military bases, enjoy their golf courses, and stay in their lodging.

Extra pressure for Web.com players this week to post a better score than Steph Curry in the Ellie Mae Classic. Curry shot a respectable 74 today.

So did TCU grad Paul Barjon beat Curry? Yes. By 10 shots.

Barjon's 64 featured a pair of eagles and has him one shot off the first-round lead. Here's hoping he stays on the leaderboard through the weekend.

Steph Curry shot a 74? I assume he has a 286 bowling average too?

Interesting you should mention that. According to Sports Illustrated...

SI.com: OK, shifting topics, what’s your third-best sport? Because it’s kind of ridiculous how good you are at golf. I know you probably don’t even play that much.

Curry: "Number 3…it’s probably bowling. I used to play baseball growing up. If I joined a softball league or something I could probably hold my own, but I can do a little damage on the lanes. But if i have free time, I’m out here (on the golf course)."

Played trinity forest in the state open this week. We will not be ranked higher than smu for awhile in men's golf. We have a bigger head start on the women. Hope we can keep that lead.

How did you like Trinity Forest?
I personally loved it. I love links golf and Scottish golf and Crenshaw did a great job re creating a similar feel. Tour players will probably dislike it and it could be a logistics nightmare for the tour as far as crowd flow and parking. The practice facilities are unbelievably good.
