Congrats to Yvette O'Brien, who outplayed pro and former U. of Florida All-American Maisie Filler down the stretch to win the Connecticut Women's Open. O'Brien and Filler were tied with 3 holes to play, but Yvette finished birdie-par-birdie to win by 3. She has now won the Connecticut Girls Junior (x2), Women's Amateur, and Women's Open--first player to win all three events.

Golf's longest day--36-hole final qualifying for the U.S. Open at 10 sites. Here's what I know about competitors linked to TCU:

• Sam Udovich is playing in Westerville, OH (51 competitors for 4 spots). He made the Round 1 turn in -3 (T8). He's got a shot.
• Lewis Wright is playing in Purchase, NY (78 for 4). He is on the last hole of Round 1 and at +5 is not likely to advance.

Udovich with 4 straight birdies to get to -8, T2, with 11 holes to play.

Edit: He's now -10, a stroke clear of 3 Tour winners.

Edit2: Bogey-bogey finish leaves him in a 4-for-3 playoff.

Edits3 & 4: Golf Monthly is reporting that there will be 5 qualifiers instead of 4, so no playoff needed. Golf Monthly confirmed a 4-for-3 playoff.

Edit5: Udovich drives it into the penalty area on the first playoff hole and is eliminated with a double bogey. Wow--tough end. Would have like to see him join Celli at Shinnecock.

Congrats to Kirstin Angosta, who shot 67 at Trophy Club last week to finish T2 in a field of 82 to advance in U.S. Women's Amateur qualifying.

Wow--Camille Min-Gaultier was cruising toward match play yesterday at the British Women's Am. With four holes left in stroke play, she was Even, well inside the cut line at +4. Then she went bogey, bogey, triple, and suddenly needed to birdie the home hole at Muirfield just to make a playoff.

She got the birdie, advanced in a late-evening 9-for-6 playoff with a first-hole par, and was rewarded with the earliest morning tee time against stroke-play medalist Lily Hirst, who finished 10 shots ahead of Min-Gaultier over two rounds.

So, naturally, Min-Gaultier sent the top seed packing today with a 6 & 5 win!

Congrats to Camille on making the round of 32. She'll be out early again on Thursday (about 3 hours from now) against fellow Frenchwoman Amely Bochaton.

Camille Min-Gaultier is into the quarter-finals at the British Women's Amateur. She won twice today: 3 & 2 over reigning Division II national champ Amely Bocheton, then 1 up against UT's second-team All American, Lauren Kim (18th in WAGR), playing in wind and fog.

Another 36-hole day awaits tomorrow, but the draw isn't bad--both remaining top-10 amateurs are on the other side of the bracket.

Update: Camille bows out in the quarterfinals to Eastern Michigan's Savannah de Bock. A fantastic tournament on a legendary course.

Stefano Mazzoli shoots a Sunday 65 to finish with the 2nd-lowest score among Italians in their national open. He was T19 overall and gets a needed bump in the DP World Tour standings.

J.J. Henry also with a Sunday 65. He finishes solo 4th and banks $132,000.

This is an eye-opener and a window into how TCU is recruiting--futures, not facilities. It's a testament not only to the staff's development but also to the quality of its evaluation.
