oh, by the way, I recently got to do something where a learned a fewe things about how they set up a course for the pros.
it was really cool. towards the end a friend jokingly asked, "do you guys hire out for landscaping?"

The guy from the PGA reponded, 'You can't afford us."
Reminds me of a favorite story growing up. We lived across the street from one of the Robertson brothers. Calvin Griffith owned the Twins and he was born a Robertson, then apparently adopted by an uncle, Clark Griffith.

Calvin put a couple siblings in charge of different things related to the Twins. Billy (I think; I was a little kid then) was our neighbor and in charge of groundskeeping at Met Stadium. Every year he sent a crew to his house across the street from us. They dug up the yard and re-sodded.

TCU women are giving it the college try. They are -5 for the day (just after the turn), which moves them into 8th place (from 10th). They are 6 shots off the cutline to advance.

Edit: Frogs end the day in 8th, 5 shots off the cutline. They will be looking to chase down Tennessee, Tulsa and Baylor tomorrow.

McIlroy says strategy off the tee this week is virtually non-existent, you just hit it as far as you can on most holes since there are so few hazards and trees. Rough doesn't really scare pros unless it's crazy deep.

Schaufelle not real impressed with the whole "trying to restore courses to the architect's original intention" nonsense by clearing all the trees, etc.

Seems like another underwhelming PGA venue.

TCU women are still alive in Waco. They have moved ahead of Tennessee into 7th place and are just 3 back of 5th-place Oregon.

Additionally, Kirstin Angosta is T3 overall and in contention to advance to nationals as an individual if the Frogs don't qualify as a team.

Rahm made an interesting point at his press availability: Some are saying it is to restore to the original intent. Well, they planted many of the trees with the intent for them to grow in. Made it sound like a coin toss as to which point has more cred.

In other news, I've urged my local muni course to hire Hanse to update the course. I've offered to supply the fuel for the saws. I look forward to improving my game.

The Frogs do not advance as a team. They got within 2 shots of fifth place a couple of times on the back nine but wound up at +14, seven shots out of the advancing group. Tulsa and Tennessee tied for 5th; hope they decide to play it off and not resolve it via comparison of discarded scores (which would favor the Vols).

The good news is that Kirstin Angosta shot a second straight 66--matching the TCU record for low round at regionals that she set yesterday--to finish solo second and advance to nationals as an individual. She hung on to beat the #3 player in the country, Oregon's Kiara Romero, by a shot. The Ducks missed advancing as a team by 2 shots.

Will be watching for her on Golf Channel. They have great collegiate coverage this time of year.

I have to say I’m quite disappointed with the ladies season. I thought they were going to be really good but, with few exceptions, they didn’t play up to their potential.

Hopefully the guys will play well next week.

Yes, three returning players appeared to be out of form through the spring semester, and with limited depth, there were few options. Coach Larkin subbed out a senior for a freshman on Days 2 & 3 this week, which made me wonder if the senior was less than 100%.

Those scores overall are pretty amazing. Yes, they only played it from about 6,000 yards. But one of the Baylor players doubled 18 to shoot 66 today.

I grew up on that course and played in many tournaments there. Granted this was in the balata / 160cc driver days, but no men shot scores like that (from 6,600 yards). In nearly fifteen years of playing there, I saw one round of 66 or better. One. That's it. Kristin Angosta shot 66 twice in the tournament this week.

Two or three over would usually win the club championship back then (only 2 days), and there were several years where there were a minimum of five current SWC golfers in the field, with another half dozen who had played collegiately but were in their 30s or 40s.

Wait, just reading back through this thread an the part about her shootting 66 is very impressive. And she did it twice?

I too am familiar with that place. Although have not been on it since the renovation. Would be interested to see if the greens changed much. They were kinda end a life span when the reno was planned.

TCU men are off to a strong start at NCAA regionals in Bryan. Frogs are -9 with a handful of holes left to play. They are paired with host A&M (4 seed) and New Mexico (5 seed). A&M leads on their home course at -11, but the Frogs are right there (as are the top 3 seeds, Texas, North Carolina, & Tennessee). More importantly, at this point, TCU is 20 shots up on 4 seed UNM and 7 above the cutline.

In Bryan, the Frogs had another good round going until the very end, when a quad on the last hole turned a bogey-free, 4-under round into an even-par dropped score. But the other four players were all under par, so TCU held onto third place.

The final round is now underway and it's getting a little tight. Frogs have dropped into 5th place at -17, and the teams chasing are Tennessee and Colorado at -13. Teams are making the turn.

Update: Frogs are right on the cutline with Tennessee at -15, two back of Chattanooga. Both of those other teams are finishing on the opposite nine; Frogs finish with the 1st, 4th, and 9th-toughest holes, while the other teams have two par-5s left, so I'd say the odds are not in their favor. Get it in the hole, guys!

The guys sure didn’t finish strong and ended up 7th. They sort of choked considering they were several strokes ahead of Tennessee and even Colorado came from double digits back and finished ahead of them.

Nor did Hayden Springer, who had it to -6 early in Round 2 but faded to -2 to miss by 2.

But Lewis Wright will still have a chance--he was medalist at the local qualifier at Hackberry Creek.

Colorado was still on the course when you looked. TCU fished sixth, two shots ahead of the Buffs.

They needed to shoot 5 under today, but shot 2 over. All 5 of the teams advancing were well under par today.

It was a good year. Lots to build on.
