40-minute deep dive on Tom Hoge, premier ball striker, working with Greg Rose at the Titleist Performance Center to transform his driver swing and pick up some speed. Is there a bet involved? It's Tom Hoge--what do you think?

Very interesting video for those really into golf. I know those guys are on another level and are capable of taking a ton of information, breaking it down, and applying what works for them, but man, you can really see how it would be pretty easy to get lost going down rabbit holes in trying to improve. Especially if a guy is really a perfectionist.

Yep. Given the TPI guys' analytical expertise, what stood out to me is how sensitive they are to the mental/emotional side of things. The specialist (a) supported Hoge's instructor, (b) took pains to not mess with the strength of Tom's game, (c) gave him a repeatable process to get into position, (d) helped him see that the changes didn't "look" weird, and (e) encouraged him to be satisfied with incremental improvement.

And to see Hoge's whole team involved, and the process of bringing a specialist into the mix, shows what an enterprise professional golf is. These guys all understand the stakes, how valuable it is to get marginal improvement, and yet how easy it is to mess up an engine that's already humming.

Been there. Done that.

And still haven't learned the lesson.

That was a fascinating study in bringing in all the constituents. Great job by the TPI guy of delicately bridging the gap between Tom and his instructor. He's obviously very good at his job and that's why he gets to work with the best players in the world.

All in all, it was a very simple -- almost an elementary -- change. Yes, you hit less down on the driver than you do the irons, and it's a different swing. Amazing they could find 4-5 mph that quickly, and then dial it in with some tweaks to the loft on the club.

I get the sense he won't stop with just 4-5 mph in gains, though! Hopefully, he'll find 3 or 4 more additional mph when he gets comfortable with it. Getting to 121 or 122 mph with a better launch angle could change the game for him.

Wexahu mentioned the "rabbit hole." The worst part about having a custom driver fit is that any time you change your swing, you really need to get re-fit for the driver. At my current rate, I'd be getting re-fit about six times during a single round!

Matt Kuchar interviewed after his round at the John Deere just said his son Cameron has committed to TCU for fall of '26 (he's a rising senior in Jupiter, FL). Said Cameron is playing in the US Junior Am at nearby Trinity Forest and Brook Hollow July 21-26.
Here's a tv story on Cameron, sporting some TCU swag, posted just a couple days ago: https://www.wpbf.com/article/cameron-kuchar-us-junior-amateur-matt-kuchar/65268516

Nice! Will be great for the locals to see Cameron and affirm his choice of school ahead of signing day.

He looks like a great get for the Frogs--17th in AJGA (6th in the class of 2026) with 5 top 10s in 8 events. https://www.ajga.org/player/cameron-kuchar

Filippo Celli is a shot back of the lead heading into the final round of the Interwetten Open on the Euro Challenge (Hotelplanner) Tour. Max Giboudot is 22nd. Celli is currently 46 in the standings. Top 45 make the final event and top 30 at season's end qualify for DP World Tour status.

Stefano Mazzoli is currently 29th in the standings. He played up last week at the DPWT's Italian Open and made the cut. Giboudot is 77th and Aymeric Laussot 78th. Those two need a slight bump between now and October to secure their full status for another year on the challenge circuit.

Update: Celli shoots a final-round 65 to finish 2nd in Austria and move up 35 spots to 11th in the Challenge Tour rankings. Giboudot also shoots 65 to finish 15th and move up to 70th.

Jack Beauchamp shot a third-round 65 to move into the top 5 at Trans-Miss. He then shot a final-round 69 to finish T4. Great event for him.

In the European Team Am Championships, Camille Min-Gautier's Team France has advanced to the championship match vs. Spain tomorrow. Camille split her matches yesterday and today, and France won both by 4-3 scores.

In Flight B, Portugal edged Czech today; Sofia Barroso Sa and Sofie Dimitrova didn't face off against each other, and each won their match.

Things began brightly for Min-Gaultier and her French teammates today--they swept the two fourball matches, with Camille and her partner beating the top Spanish pair (ranked #4 and #20 in WAGR). But France got wrecked in singles, and Spain won 4.5-2.5. Good week for Camille, though. Barroso Sa and Dimitrova also won their matches today--I think all 3 Frogs finished the week .500 or better.

Important day tomorrow for Hayden Springer, who is T11 in the PGA Tour's alternate-field event in Louisville. He's 2 shots out of the top 5, which would give him a needed bump in the FedEx Cup rankings as he works to regain full Tour status. https://www.pgatour.com/tournaments/2025/isco-championship/R2025518/leaderboard
