David Ravetto comes across the pond to get a rare (debut?) PGA Tour start in the opposite-field Barbasol Championship. Shoots 64 in round 2 to sit T14 going into the weekend, where he's paired with Jason Dufner. BetMGM odds on a Ravetto win: +10000.

Johannes Veerman is also T14. JJ Henry shot a 67 in round 2 but it wasn't enough to offset an opening 77.

Tom Hoge has $4M in earnings this season (45th) with a bunch of early-season top-15s, T3 at both the TOC and Players and a win at the QBE Shootout, but he hasn't posted a top-40 finish in an individual event since the Players. But back-to-back 66s have him T10 at the Scottish Open going into the final round. Should be interesting--forecast tomorrow is for 40 mph wind. Catch the action early on Golf Channel.

Also, keep an eye on Stefano Mazzoli (and Filippo Celli) at the Euro Challenge Tour event in Austria. Mazzoli is T10 going into the final round. He was on the leaderboard a couple of weeks ago and then blew up with an 82. At 143rd on the points list, he could really use a good finish.

Ravetto with a bogey-free 67 in round 3 at the Barbasol--moves him up to T7. He's had a productive season, earning the equivalent of $190,000, with $35,000 being his largest single paycheck. If he holds his position tomorrow he'll earn six figures in his Tour debut, and finishing 3rd would more than double his career earnings. Plus, I think a top 10 would earn him another start.

Mazzoli has so much talent but can't seem to avoid big mistakes. Triples a par 5 and drops to 25th, leaving him well outside the top 100 on the Challenge Tour points list. Celli, meanwhile, shoots 66 to finish T13.

And if you haven't watched the highlights from the Scottish Open, do. Robert MacIntyre shot a 64 in sustained 25-mph winds in the final round of his national open to beat everyone not named Rory by 4. MacIntyre's unbelievable birdie at the last forced McIlroy to make birdie at either 17 or 18 (5th- and 1st-toughest holes) to force a playoff. But there would be no playoff.

Ravetto shoots a final-round 68 and finishes T9, earning a $95,950 paycheck that more than doubles his biggest payday...and possibly qualifying for the 3M Open in Minnesota at the end of July.

Just caught Mateo F de O coming through the feature-hole coverage at the 17th hole at Hoylake. Announcers offering effusive praise for the Arkansas golf facilities at The Blessings. No mention of his time at TCU. Mateo will not make the weekend (+7), but getting the opportunity to play all the majors has been a huge perk of his Latin America Amateur win.

Tom Hoge finished a couple of shots better (+5) but will probably be a shot or two outside of the cut line.

At least four Frogs were in action last week, representing their countries in the European Amateur Team Championships. Gustav Frimodt and Jacob Skov Oleson both shined for the Danish team, which finished as runners-up in Belgium. In stroke play, Oleson was 3rd and Frimodt 7th in a 94-player field, as the Danes took the top seed. Max Giboudot was also in the top half of the field as France also qualified for the quarter-finals.

In individual matches, Frimodt went 3-0 and Oleson 2-0-1 as the Danes beat Sweden and Ireland before dropping a tight final to Spain, 4-3. The TCU players also teamed up in alternate-shot play, where they went 1-2. Giboudot went 1-1 in individual matches and 1-0 in foursomes as the French men finished 5th. PDF download of results

Lois Lau represented France on the women's side in Finland. She went 2-1 in individual matches and 0-1 in foursomes as the French women finished 7th out of 19 teams.

Went looking to see if David Ravetto was in the field for this week's PGA Tour 3M Open based on his top-10 finish at the Barbasol. He is not, so not sure if that means he didn't qualify or if he gets to defer his start to another Tour event.

Meanwhile, I found this interview following his second-round 64, in which his time at TCU was mentioned by the interviewer, who then asked him to compare Paris with Fort Worth (from 1:35). He said FW was very welcoming and that he looks forward to getting back as soon as he can to "his second home." Paris, meanwhile, is "a little busy."

One incoming and one future Frog have qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur. Incoming transfer Meagan Winans shot 72 at Shady Valley in Arlington to nab one of 6 spots; she finished a shot ahead of UT's Bentley Cotton and SMU's Ellie Szeryk.

2024 commit Gracie McGovern of Scottsdale shot 66 to win the Sun City West qualifier by 3 shots. Among those she beat were UCLA's Zoe Campos, Oregon's Briana Chacon and Arizona State's Grace Summerhays. McGovern is a state champ and already 228th in WAGR--excited to see she plans to be a Frog.

The Women's Am will be played at Bel Air Country Club, Aug. 7-13.

Congrats to Aaron Hickman on winning his second Texas Mid-Amateur title in the last four years. This one didn't come at his home course in Tyler but at Cross Timbers in Azle. Aaron shot 68 in qualifying, which matched the best score, and then he ran off 5 straight match-play wins, culminating in a 2&1 victory in the final.

TCU commit Gracie McGovern was in the first group off at the U.S. Women's Amateur this a.m. She played with Caroline Canales, a former USWA quarterfinalist and Aine Donegan, who made the cut at the US Women's Open a few weeks ago. McGovern shot a solid 71, which is T38. She'll have a great shot at making match play tomorrow. She bettered Donegan by 6 but saw Canales, who attends UCLA across the street, torch Bel Air CC with a 66 (T1). They'll have afternoon tee times tomorrow.

Incoming transfer Meagan Winans was in one of the last groups of the afternoon wave. She is +7 playing the last hole and is unlikely to advance unless she shoots 66 or better tomorrow.

Congrats to TCU commit Gracie McGovern for advancing to the match play portion of the U.S. Women's Am. She had a rough start today (+3 through 4), but settled in and made 4 birdies before a late bogey brought her back to even for the round and +1 total. She qualified as the 26th seed and will face incoming Vanderbilt freshman Sara Im in the round of 64. If she wins that, she'll likely face 7th-seeded Michigan senior and SoCal native Hailey Borja, who has won at least one match in 3 prior editions of the Women's Am.

I don't know who she has had caddying for her, but if I were Angie Larkin, I'd be on site trying to keep the other Power 5 coaches out of her space. She seems like the real deal.

Meagan Winans' round was the exact opposite of Gracie's--she was -2 through 4 and looked like she might play her way back into contention, then took a long ride on the bogey train to a 79.

Edit: Gracie's dad is her caddie; they made the photo sequence from today's action.

Joggin, I may have missed it, but did our new men's coach make any moves through recruiting or the transfer portal since he came on board?
The roster has been updated and it includes one freshman name that I hadn't seen before. It also doesn't include the signee commit that seemed likely to have the most immediate impact, top-ranked junior college player Matthis Lefevre. Looks like Arkansas poached the Frogs again.

The schedule was also posted on Twitter last week, which means we're due for a new thread. Will try to get that started in the next few days and see what I can learn about the latest Italian import.

Gracie McGovern's U.S. Women's Am comes to a screeching halt today. She loses 7 & 6 in a rude intro to high-level match play.

Gracie spending less time in the spotlight may be to TCU's advantage. Signing day is still a few months out.
