TCU women are in 13th place after 36 holes in Scottsdale. They shot 301 today (1 shot higher than yesterday) and are in the thick of things: Frogs are currently 2 shots inside of the top-15, which is the 54-hole cut-off; and 9 shots back of 8th place, which represents the group that advances to match play after 72 holes. Today's star for the Frogs was Lois Lau, who shot 73. Lois has played some of her best golf in Arizona. Sabrina Iqbal is the highest-placed individual; she is T29. She is 5 shots back of Caitlyn Macnab in the battle for the TCU single-season scoring record. It has been a weird tournament, in part because desert golf yields some blow-ups, and especially because the weather pattern has favored the lower-seeded teams playing in the early/late wave. As a result, there are 6 top-10 teams that sit behind the Frogs. Amazing to see TCU ahead of South Carolina, Wake Forest, Oklahoma State (which is 5-0 against the Frogs outside of Tarrant County) and San Jose State (which beat TCU by 20+ shots both times they've teed it up together). At the same time, the Frogs are looking up at Purdue, Texas A&M and Georgia--all teams TCU has beaten this season. And since the whole field is within 11 shots of 15th place, tomorrow is likely to be crazy. The good thing is that the Frogs can focus on chasing the top 8 and perhaps not worry about the talented teams chasing them. They'll be paired tomorrow with two top-10 teams, UVa and San Jose State. (SJSU assistant Kortnie Maxoutopoulis Barrett will get to walk with her alma mater.)
