TCU men with a less-than-satisfying finish in Palm Desert. Frogs did not contend on the last day (Tech won at -6 with a last-hole birdie to nip Boise State by a stroke) despite a 68 from Stefano Mazzoli, who finished 8th individually at -3 for the tourney, and Hayden Springer, who shot his third straight 72 to finish T10.

A pair of 79s doomed the Frogs to a 4th-place finish at +3; Kansas came from 13 shots down with the low team score of the day to beat the Frogs by a stroke.

Also, for the third straight day, the Golfstat real-time score for TCU was incorrect, with an extra stroke added to TCU's total after the round. Not sure if that was due to scoring error or a late penalty-stroke ruling, but to have it happen three straight days is frustrating, especially when it affects the order of finish.

Individually, David Ravetto and Pierre Mazier also finished in the top 20 overall in a 120-player field. Trevor Brown did not have a good tournament but finished on a high note with a final-day 67.

The 19th-ranked TCU women will be in action tomorrow at the ICON Invitational at The Woodlands. Senior Yeji Shin will get her first start of the spring. Follow progress here: http://results.golfstat.com//public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=team&tid=16907

TCU women get off to a rough start in The Woodlands (+4 as a team after 1 hole) and finish the first round in ninth place at +14, 18 shots back of the tournament leader, Purdue. Teams were supposed to play 36 today and 18 tomorrow. Teams have begun the second round but it looks like they may only finish 27 today. Rain is forecast for tomorrow, so possible they may reduce the tournament to 36 holes.

Individually, Greta Bruner shot even in round 1 and is T9. Edit: Grace Do also in the top 20.

Play at the ICON got through 14-16 holes in the second round before darkness suspended play. TCU has moved up into a tie for 5th with the second-best round score (+3), which was even better before a pair of late triples. Frogs trail co-leaders Houston and Purdue by 12.

Individually, Greta Bruner is now T4 at -2, four back of the leader. As with last year, she seems to thrive in the iffy conditions of spring golf. Sabrina Iqbal is also under par for her round and +4 overall, T18.

Should be an interesting final round as the top three teams in the field (Kent State, Clemson and TCU) are all 11-12 shots back. Purdue was 8 shots ahead but with no margin of error because the fifth player was double-digits over par...then in about 5 minutes, bad holes from two players completely erased their lead.

Frog women are having a strong final round at the ICON Invitational; Bruner and Iqbal now both in the top 5 individually.

The team leaderboard is crowded with just a few holes to play--Frogs are among four teams with a chance to win.

Houston leads by 5 but still has to get all of its players through this hole:

Edit: Bruner closes with birdies on two of her last three holes; Houston's 2-3-4 players all bogey the last. Frogs have a chance.

Frogs have closed a 10-shot gap on Houston and are now in a virtual tie for the lead at +9. Purdue is in the clubhouse at +11; two holes left to post for most of the Frogs.

Edit 1: Double for Iqbal on her final hole drops the Frogs to +12. Still a couple of holes not posted.

Edit 2: Frogs drop one more shot and finish at +13 for a fourth-place finish. (Houston +8, Purdue +11, Kent State +12, TCU +13).

Still a very good final round for TCU (-4, the Frogs' lowest round of the tourney and the second-best team score of the day) and a respectable finish. Greta Bruner shot 68 and finished in solo second. Sabrina Iqbal finished T9; she had two late birdies in completing her third round this a.m. and then posted four birdies in a final-round 72. Annika Clark shot a strong 71 and Yeji Shin 73.

Edit 3: Greta Bruner tied Emmy Martin's TCU record for the lowest 54-hole score in relation to par: -6. Bruner has been clutch in final rounds all year (-11 total over the last three tournaments and -8 for the season).

Frogs finish day one at +6, tied for 8th. TCU lost 4 shots on the last few holes, which hurts. Mazier with a nice 70 that has him in 5th individually. Great to see him playing well.

Second straight tournament where Mazzoli, TCU's highest-ranked player, got off to a slow start. Last week he turned an opening 76 into a top-10 finish; hopefully he'll come out hot tomorrow. He finished top-3 at this tournament last year.

TCU men post the third-best score of the day (-6) to move to even par as a team after two rounds of the Southern Highlands Invitational. That still has the Frogs in 8th place, but closer to a top-five finish than they were yesterday (4 shots out of 4th).

Yesterday, only three teams broke par; today, 11 did. Georgia Tech (-11) leads Stanford by a shot.

Like last week, Stefano Mazzoli had a strong bounce-back second round (-4) to lead the Frogs. Pierre Mazier has TCU's best two-round score (-1, T18). David Ravetto and Hayden Springer are also in the top 30. Balanced effort.

TCU posts a one-under final round and finishes T7 at the Southern Highlands Invitational. The Frogs finish ahead of 6th-ranked USC, 7th-ranked Auburn and 13th-ranked Pepperdine, which will help solidify their postseason status.

Hayden Springer shot a bogey-free final-round 68 to lead the Frogs. At -2 for the tournament, he finished T14 in a field featuring 28 of the top 100 collegiate golfers. Stefano Mazzoli shot 69 and finished T21.

Good example of why you never give up in golf: Frogs pulled into a tie with UNLV by picking up 6 shots on the final hole, courtesy of three TCU birdies and a UNLV triple.

Big 12 finished 1-2-4-7, with Oklahoma's last player sinking a 30-foot bomb on the final hole to beat Texas by a shot. UT's Cole Hammer birdied the final three holes to catch UNLV's Jack Trent for medalist, but in the playoff, Hammer missed an 18-inch putt, which cost him an invitation to play in the Las Vegas event on the PGA Tour.

A couple of notes on TCU golfers:

- Greta Bruner won her second straight Big 12 player of the month award (November 2018 & February 2019). Congrats, Greta!

- Stefano Mazzoli was passed over in the initial selections made Wednesday for the Arnold Palmer Cup international team--6 auto-qualifiers and 4 committee picks were announced. Mazzoli, who made last year's team, had been on the bubble (10th in the last points list); it looks like the committee favored World Amateur Golf Ranking over the AP cup points list in its selections. There is still one additional selection to be announced in May--besides Mazzoli (101 in WAGR), international players under consideration would include Florida's John Axelson (58), UNLV's Harry Hall (83), USF's Albin Bergstrom (96) and USC's Kaito Onishi (205 but highest on the AP Cup points list). Four of the five played head to head in this week's Southern Highlands Intercollegiate; Mazzoli had the best finish, beating Axelson by 3, Onishi by 5 and Hall by 10.

Mazzoli's play will be watched carefully over the next few weeks; it should help that he played well in the event last year. The AP Cup is a significant honor for college golfers (other Frogs that have played include J.J. Henry, Adam Rubinson, & Alberto Ochoa), but a week outside of Little Rock doesn't quite compare to last year's tourney site at Evian, France.

TCU women are in action today on one of the world's Top 100 courses, Pete Dye's Teeth of the Dog course at Casa de Campo in the Dominican Republic. The tournament is the Tar Heel Classic; they are scheduled to play 36 today and 18 tomorrow.

Teams are already on the back nine in their first round; Frogs are currently T4 as a team at even par. Annika Clark is T3 individually at -2.

Greta Bruner is playing alongside Wake Forest's Jennifer Kupcho, who is showing why she is the top-ranked women's amateur in the world, currently at -6 through 13 holes.

Frog women are in sixth place at +9 after 36 holes in the DR. Based on ranking, TCU projects as the third-best team in the 15-team field, so they have some work left to meet expectations. Twelfth-ranked Wake Forest leads at -9; #16 Virginia is the only other team under par.

Individually, Greta Bruner leads the Frogs at -2, which is T6 overall. Greta shot a stellar 68 in the afternoon round; Annika Clark led the Frogs in the a.m. round with a 70.

Bruner is a gamer. In the morning, Wake Forest's Jennifer Kupcho trucked her by 8 shots (66 vs. 74). But through 6 holes in the p.m. round, Bruner had pulled back 7 shots (-4 to Kupcho's +3). In the end, Bruner (68) topped Kupcho (69) by just a stroke. But nice to be able to say that you beat the world's top-ranked amateur head-to-head over 18 holes.

Frogs finish sixth at the Tar Heel Invitational at +13. With round scores of 293-292-292, you can say they were consistent. Multiple cards of 76+ in each round kept the Frogs from posting a higher finish.

Greta Bruner and Sabrina Iqbal both posted rounds of -1 to lead the Frogs. Bruner finished T5 overall, Iqbal T18. That's her third top-five finish in four tournaments. With an average round score of 72.2, she's on pace to break TCU's single-season scoring record.

TCU men will be in action tomorrow at the Lake Charles Toyota Invitational. You can follow action here:
