TCU Gives Day -- Because $66,600 Is Not Enough

Like many of you, Steel is being bombarded by entreaties to donate money to TCU the last month or so, reaching a crescendo with the day that has been designated as TCU Gives Day, tomorrow.

TCU costs now $66,600 to attend: https://admissions.tcu.edu/afford/cost-estimate.php

This is almost a comedy act that TCU thinks anyone would fall for this.

The endowment is $2.1 BILLION : https://magazine.tcu.edu/fall-2021/university-endowment

Philanthropic campaign? What needy cause is this campaign to benefit? Oh, poor lil TCU...

Side Eye...

Does anyone on here intend to donate money tomorrow? If so, why?

Only if there is a "Buy out Gary's Contract" option.

My contribution is designated towards student academic scholarships to help more afford the high cost of attendance. The only thing I ever fell for was at one time thinking you were just a smart azz, now I realize you are more a dumb azz

And you really buy that huh?

If you really wanted to benefit a kid, wouldn't you give the money to -- the KID, as opposed to the billion dollar corporation that's begging for money like it's a pauper, meanwhile living the type of lifestyle that would embarrass a drunken sailor? Metaphorically speaking?

No. TCU's only contact with us is when they beg for money. It was $20 a semester hour when I attended, and I can't see that a degree from TCU is worth the cost. My two sons attended state schools which were affordable for us: A&M and VA Tech.

This is so true. They used to do a pretty good job reaching out to alums to keep them engaged with the university without asking for money ALL THE DAMN TIME. A few years into VB's tenure that was cut back, and back, and back again until it is totally absent.

EDIT: Oh, they haven't cut the TCU Magazine yet, so there is that....

You proved my point

Of the 9,445 undergrads at Texas Christian University about 71.0% (6,733 in total) receive some kind of grant aid. The standard amount granted was $25,946.

What is really pathetic is that you try to argue here that this doesn't happen and those who contribute shouldn't do so.

So subsidizing the overpriced product thus artificially inflating demand all in the name of generosity/charity, sounds like a racket

That dollar amount has not increased with the cost of tuition

It is interesting that Alumni contributions peaked in 2017, and declined each year since , by some $8 million in 2020. . Probably not a coincidence that was our last double digit win season in football. Gary may be costing the University much more than just his salary with this string of disappointing seasons

Ding, ding, ding ding, we have a winner. Contrary to what many Academicians think a winning football team does make a huge difference. Sadly we do not have one of those currently.
