TCU banning Steven Johnson/Star Telegram over assault reporting

It's just so bizarre to me. Players, coaches, and other team personnel are frequently disciplined and you NEVER see stories like this from major media.

Heck, for our opponent tomorrow, Michael Lombardi is under investigation and Steve Belichick is on a medical leave.

I haven't seen a newspaper saying that someone close to Lombardi is blaming his accuser and says this is what happened...

I don't think I've ever seen a newspaper report on someone's dismissal (from a private or public sector job) by going to that person to see what they say. Employers can almost never comment.

Very strange IMO
typical MSM caca. They don't report Conor Stalion signal stealing crap and the only team to thwart Mich in '22 & '23. The MSM does not report Colorado & Kansas true 3M a year sponsorship while the other B12 members are scrapping for 1M a year Monster boondoggle.

The MSM is also lying via omission and not talking about the firearms being stockpiled in Mosques, Measles and Norovirus deaths. MSM lying by omission and not talking about the actual removal of all Mines in Strait of Hormuz & Fentanyl death reduction. More relevant to the thread is Texas Tech HC Joe "compiling" a "hit list" on teams in the B12 that spoke negatively about the Brendan Sorsby scandal.

The ST and SJ have failed to atone for their
mistake and unprofessionalism, while watching friends in their industry pile on TCU. At this point, I don’t care if ST ever gets its TCU credentials back. And SJ can enjoy covering FWISD because nobody else is going to hire him.
Agreed. The ST could’ve just let this boil over and try to amend relationships with TCU. But no. They have since then doubled down and released hit piece after hit piece against the school, the administration, and the coaching staff. Pretty pathetic stuff.

Was I supposed to type something here?

Like a bunch of pissy teenagers that just got told "No" for the first time...

Specifically, I am curious as to WHY the individual who thought they were making this call considered it wise WITHOUT showing their face.

The persons at TCU who made the decision to pull S Johnson off are being given a platinum pass to hide like a 5th grade kid.

If they want to say that it was a collective departmental decision, then they need to read up about the history of Group Think and the disasters of group think.
Now we’re picking on fifth graders?!?!?

Cost the school students and money? That's hilarious. TCU isn't lacking for either.
Then why do I get emails, mail, and phone calls twice a week with them asking me for some of my money? We had a transaction that ended thirty five years ago where I gave them a lot of money. I went into debt to do it. That transaction ended and I paid the agreed upon amount. However, they keep asking me for more. That wasn’t part of the initial agreement…
I am happy to hear they have plenty. I had always suspected that to be the case.

I'm genuinely interested in some additional perspective from those who think that TCU screwed up here, and I'm wondering if I'm missing any material facts. As I understand it:

Fields assaulted player B in the locker room and sent him to the hospital.

TCU kicked Fields off of the team for his actions.

An unidentified person connected to Fields contacted the Star Telegram, stating that Fields was bullied and somehow else mistreated, which potentially pointed some blame at player B. The paper ran with the story, likely approaching the school for information (TCU declined comment).

Player B separately identified himself as Ezukanma, and then received some harassment and threats.

The paper tried to reduce its blame by saying they hadn't identified player B (Personally I think this is silly because it wouldn't be difficult for people to figure out who was at practice on the day of the assault and then missing the next day).

Are any of those statements incorrect? Is there more background I'm missing?

To me, the paper made a grievous mistake by publishing ANY of the information provided by the source. SJ wrote it and at least one editor approved it. It seems crazy to publish the assailant's side at all and even worse from a second hand source. Another source, within a couple days, refuted what the first source said.

I understand someone thinking that TCU went too strong on revoking credentials but when a reporter publishes the offender's version of an assault that seems very irresponsible and potentially dangerous.

Again - would love to hear if I am missing something.
I picture Matthew McConaughey in A Time to Kill, asking us to close our eyes to imagine the scene, and then stating, “now, imagine if this story was about sexual assault.”

I actually thought about that when I was writing that out, but thought it was a little much to make that comparison.

But yeah.

I was trying to turn this thread back to the instigator, the thug is the sole one to blame. Fields coldcocked a teammate and now it has led to people here blaming Dykes, Buddie, TCU administration, Steven Johnson and the Star-Telegram for how it was handled; and on the Fields’ incident thread, people suggesting it is no surprise or big deal or understandable that Fields’ sucker punched a player in the locker room and put him in the hospital for days, jeepers; he could have died, then what? Someone stated Dozie hit his head on the floor and Fields didn’t stop. Brain bleed and death happens after falling and whacking the head on the floor, table or bench.
And before Shelton pushed him away. “Shelton then saw Fields pull his leg back and kick Ezukanma in the head “as hard as he could,” the affidavit reads.”
And the brain did bleed. But you don’t need me to overdramatize this, sheesh. @Wexahu and others.

Where were the coaches when this happened? Only players in locker room? We have overpaid and little needed assistant coaches by the dozens.
