TCU Athletics wants you to know you don't mean [ Finebaum ] to them

Looks like Ireland will be a next big expansion team (College o' Leprechaun) member for the Big 12.....

And with no legitimate big-school home games, it might be hard for boosters to want to ante up more and more NIL money....

Anyone that donates money to nil for kids who can jump ship after one year is a sucker. Good thing Ireland has all that sweet Lucky Charms cash.

Meltdown acknowledged but please enlighten us where Top is off-base here?
The idea that TCU about its fans is absolutely insane. If TCU didn't care about fans, they wouldn't:
  • Invest tens of millions of dollars per year in football
  • Include highest-level D1 athletics as one of 5 pillars in the university's strategic plan
  • Max out the new student-athlete revenue share ($21M/yr) to ensure we compete not only in--but at the top of--the Big 12 and Power 4
  • Employ fan experience, customer service, and similar athletics personnel
  • Build fan-serving infrastructure, game day experiences, etc.
  • Ditch the SMU series to up the average number of home football games
  • Literally try to move heaven and earth to be competitive
I'm sorry you wanted to see UNC at AGCS. The school does a [ Finebaum ] ton for its fans, and it wants to take every opportunity to compete at the highest levels. Every little preference you have isn't going to be met in order to strategically position the institution and athletics programs for short and long-term success.

The self-centered, ignorant whine campaign over this rather insignificant game is ridiculous and completely lacks perspective. Easy to see why this board is dying off relative to its heyday. Old folks with old ideas stuck in the days of old. It ain't all about you, but if you look around a lot of it is about you, you just take it for granted and can never be satisfied.

Whoever said that our admin still has the mindset that we’re still in CUSA is pretty accurate.
I do kinda miss playin’ the Dragons.
Was one day hoping we’d do a non-con with Delta State. Now THAT woulda been mascot sideline fight of the century….that we probabl’ woulda lost.

Fair enough, and I'm not really your audience since I'm not all that worked up about it, but if a large number of fans doesn't think it is about them, then it's not about them.

Ditching the SMU series because supposedly adding another home game was that important, and then pulling this stunt, doesn't make sense. And how does this increase our chances of being competitive? Is it really better for the football program to play a game in Dublin, Ireland rather than Fort Worth? Why couldn't we play this year's game in Dublin and next year's in Fort Worth? Why wouldn't UNC agree to that, if it's something that is beneficial to fans and a program?

I'll start with the end and work backwards.

Wy couldn't we play this year's game in Dublin and next year's in Fort Worth? Because K-State and Iowa State announced they're booked for the 2025 Ireland a year ago. We were invited in 2026, not 2025. Why wouldn't UNC agree to that...? Again, because they weren't invited in 2025.

And how does this increase our chances of being competitive? Eyeballs, brand exposure, and cash. Only P4 game of the week/first game of the season in 2026. You know who we were going to be up against for TV slot and eyeballs in Week 1 in 2026 if we stayed in Fort Worth? Notre Dame-Wisconsin at Lamebau, Bama @ WVU, Clemson @ LSU, Wazzu @ Washington, UCLA @ Cal, Baylor @ Auburn, Boise @ Oregon, Colorado @ Georgia Tech, and Miami @ South Carolina. Is it really better for the football program to play a game in Dublin, Ireland rather than Fort Worth? Let's not act like this is some novel opportunity that other schools haven't deemed worthwhile. These teams have recently given up home games to go to Dublin: Wisconsin (2027), K-State (2025), Florida St (2024), and Nebraska (2022). Not bad company.

Ditching the SMU series because supposedly adding another home game was that important, and then pulling this stunt, doesn't make sense. Beg to differ. Ditching the SMU series allows us to take advantage of this financial boon while still having 7 home games.

Look, I get some folks who can't/won't travel are disappointed. That's fair. But this is a football game against UNC, not Ohio State or LSU. Losing those sucked. This one just doesn't move the needle anywhere near the degree some of you are acting. It by no means was going to be a marquee game of 2026 Week 1. At least sort of trust the experts looking at the money and guiding our program. This just isn't that big of a deal.

Are you part of the administration? You are always fast to defend them.

Moving a P4 game from our stadium and home field is a big deal. Whether it is LSU, Ohio State or UNC. Are the Tar Heels a "marquee" game? No but they are a P4 and a win over them is huge in the grand scheme and team goals.

Ditching SMU was a bad decision. Period. Especially now that we are moving the UNC game and taking the experience of that game away from the fans as well as giving up a home field advantage in a system where wins are paramount to make the playoffs. Why take away that edge? It is BS they get it that advantage and a neutral field while act like little [hundinnen ] still in CUSA.

Right, there was already a game in Ireland for this year. So what should we have done? Say no. We will see you in Fort Worth you powder blue [ "illegitimate Baylor boys" ].

The Ireland game is a novelty act. A gimmick. There are not going to be that many eyeballs. Winning and making the playoffs garners eyeballs and good PR. The AD's job is to do everything he can to help make that happen. Not remove games from our home schedule to fly across the Atlantic and play. No one gives a scheiss about that.

That most fans are unhappy is telling and we are right to push back and let the AD and the school know that this move on top of others in recent years is enough.

Last years game drew 5 million people. The year before that 3.8 million. The year before that 4.4 million.

Highest rated TCU game last year was 2.3 million (Texas Tech). Only 4 other games topped a million (Stanford, UCF, Houston, and the bowl). Three of them werent even on traditional television.

We are looking at roughly double the audience of our best game, somewhere between 3-4 times most games. That's a lot of eyeballs.

Well, a combination of events has caused me to drop my season tickets, but I might elect to spend more for a few good home games, a cool road trip, or a bowl destination. Several things will have to fall in place for me business-wise, but God willing, I would like to go to this game.
For me, it's wife willing.

And I don't think she will be...

Ummm….they have done all that you listed because football makes money - not for fans

You seriously can’t be that stupid

Blah blah blah. TCU invests in athletics to stay in business. I wish we had something else to hang our hat on.

I thought the idea of ditching SMU was because they stunk. Suddenly they are quite competitive in a P4 conference. We are also no longer their super bowl. Never minded having the doable road trip. Then again if someone hires their coach and a few of their studs transfer out they may not be so good.

I agree with him. Does that mean I work for TCU, too? Dick statement Top. I understand your anger, but it is totally unnecessary to say garbage like this.

He is right about this forum slipping. This is another example of that. It is OK to disagree with you & the mob.

Nobody outside of diehard TCU fans or UNC fans are going to care about this game. Playing in Ireland is not even remotely special or interesting. The ratings will suck. This will only benefit the Irish hotels and whiskey distilleries. It’s just a way to soak more money from the fans

The Irish Distillers will benefit if I go. The rest of you won't make a bump...

Teeling is a wonderful stop. And, they do make the best Irish Coffee.
