TCU 360: Quarterback Trevone Boykin and defensive end Devonte Fields address media for first time

For the first time in his tenure at TCU, head coach Gary Patterson allowed freshman players to speak to the media.

Quarterback and redshirt freshman Trevone Boykin, along with true freshman defensive end Devonte Fields, spoke to members of the media about their season following Thursday’s practice.

Here are a few highlights of what they said:

Trevone Boykin:
In early October, Trevone Boykin was awarded the starting quarterback position following Casey Pachall’s arrest on suspicion of drunk driving. Boykin, who was practicing as a running back that week, told the media he was notified of the start through a phone call.

“Coach Burns called me,” he said. “And he told me that I was going to be the guy. He told me I had to step up and be the leader.”

Good read. Sounds like even with the unexpected occurrences this season they've been working hard, learning, and having fun. I think this team has something really special going on could blow our minds next season. Watch out MSU!

That true freshman class we have is already good, but they are going to special by the time it's all done.

Fields said he didn’t expect to have the starting job in August, but feels his abilities are improving on a weekly basis. ... Referring to his confidence for playing in the Big 12, he said, “I’m gaining it a little bit.”

It will be a very long day for every QB we play if he ever gets to feeling really confident with his abilities.
