TCU 360: Projecting TCU Horned Frogs in the draft

By PJ Theberge

As the NFL season comes to a close, the landscape for the upcoming NFL draft is already beginning to take shape. Here is an early look at where some TCU players might fit into the mix:

After a down season due to injury, Stansly Maponga elected to declare for the draft, entering a class that is loaded with pass rushing talent. Due to his size, he will likely be asked to stand up and play linebacker in the NFL in a 3-4 set. While ESPN hasn’t updated its draft big board to add Maponga yet, CBS Sports ranks him as the 17th-best defensive end in the draft. CBS says he will likely to go in the 5th-6th round. A good showing in the combine could elevate him to the middle rounds.

NFL comparison: Paul Kruger, OLB, Baltimore Ravens.
Draft prediction: 4th round, New England Patriots. ...

Where do these "official" 40 times come from? If Boyce is a true 4.53, then none of the DB's he has faced can beat 4.7 seconds. I think those are ESPN numbers.

To summarize...

Maponga - 4th
Foltz - 5th
Boyce - 6th
Dawson - 6th

My guess...

Maponga - 5th
Foltz - 6th
Boyce - 4th
Dawson - 7th/UDFA

Wonder if 4th to 6th round were what Maponga and Boyce were expecting when they declared. If so, good luck.

If some agent told them higher than where they could possibly go....git a rope for that agent.

As much as I want those guys back....I think the 4th and 6th are as good as these guys were gonna get. They both were very proven commodities by this point and probably reached their highest draft staus. If they got their degrees then I agree wih leaving now...why risk the injury.

Skye Dawson being drafter is crazy. I know he's fast but there are a lot of 5-10, low 4.4 guys out there that are actually good WRs. Not trying to insult him but just trying to evaluate his pro potential. Now...he's a guy that definately used another year to improve his stock. He should have been redshirted in '09. Although at the risk of GP putting him at PR...kinda glad he's done.

Also...where is Kenny Cain on this list. Dude is another David Hawthorne. You don't need a great 40 time to be an ILB. With his nose for the ball, production and size...I just don't see him being undrafted. Plus he was a great ST player his first 2 years.

No Kenny Cain?

The players mentioned after the jump here are all projected to go undrafted by both ESPN and CBS Sports. Here’s a quick analysis of each player:
Kenny Cain, linebacker – Will likely have to move to the outside in the NFL due to his smaller size. A weak-side linebacker position in a 4-3 defense suits Cain well, who could be a special teams contributor right away.
