Frog fans speak out on TCU game-day accessibility challenges

By Ava Basch, Staff Writer

ADA seating at Amon G. Carter stadium offers accessible spots for fans with disabilities on every level.

Some fans question whether the university is doing enough to make the game-day experience accessible to everyone, as obstacles for fans with disabilities continue to persist.

University officials said TCU offers accessibility services, including reserved ADA parking, accessible seating and elevators to make the stadium easier to navigate for fans with disabilities.

Senior Associate Athletic Director for Ticket Operations, Sean Conner, said the university provides about 150 ADA parking spots near the stadium and accessible seating on every level of the stadium.

"Some fans..." What a pantload. Are we sure this wasn't ghostwritten by Big Steaming Pile? Because it is a hack job from the first sentence, written with the intention of tearing at TCU over things that are out of their control.

"Some fans" wouldn't be happy if they were magically levitated into place, kept cool by beautiful topless girls wielding feather fans, and hand fed sweets during the game. Maybe this Ava Basch person could go and interview them, getting their in-depth perspective on these weighty matters...

I truly detest "reporters" of this sort. Feh.

Some people, yes. They interviewed and named two individuals, who probably captured the sentiments of others. Did you read the whole article or just the headline?

My father had to stop going to fb games because it IS challenging for someone with physical disabilities to do the amount of ground covering necessary if you don't have a primo parking spot. TCU doesn't do a particularly terrible job, but it's not beyond possibility that they could do better. Who doesn't want to get better, if it can be done?

Just because it doesn't affect you doesn't mean it doesn't affect someone or isn't an important point. Besides, the writer might simply be writing a piece they were assigned, not sure why the vitriol.

The next challenge is the obstructed views from accessible seating. Seats are sometimes located far from the action or blocked by the band. This makes the game much harder to follow and less enjoyable.

Blocked by the band? There's accessible seating all around the main concourse. The accessible seats behind 101 and 102 are usually empty for the most part. They are right about navigating around the crowds on the concourse. I had to use a knee scooter to get around for the Colorado game and people are just oblivious to what's going on around them. People were constantly walking in front of me and getting in my way like they didnt see me. But that's not TCUs fault. There's nothing TCU can do about that.

Yes, when the shuttle drop/pick site from Paschal High was moved from Stadium Drive to one block east of University, it quickly became difficult for my degenerative disk and sciatica afflictions to trudge eight blocks to the stadium....Walked away from season tickets and haven't been back....

I completely understand and I'm sorry to hear that.

I have little patience for Media hit-pieces, and the opening sentence pretty much gives away the rest of the story. Did I read the whole thing? No. I avoid doing click-bait, and the para presented was plenty enough for me to glean the rest of the contents.

As for issues attending games, I hate to note this, but it's attending a football game. There's long walks, crowds, jostling, terrible seating, narrow concourses, annoying choke points, etc. It isn't a place for anyone but trained gymnasts, perhaps marathoners, and those of us who are not trained gymnasts have to shuffle and bumble along.

The point is, when you can't get along well anymore, and at 60+ I understand quite exquisitely not getting along well, it's time to stop going to places where you get bumped, jostled, and have to walk long distances over uneven hard ground. Mrs. Brewingfrog and I are both done after this season. 38 years of season tickets, and that's that. It isn't my scene anymore. I have a TV, and a well-stocked bar, and I can enjoy things from the comfort of my back patio.

Just read entire piece—this is 101 stuff.

-communicate to all ADA ticket holders & families, elevators, pathway & routes

-especially brief all ACA yellow shirts

-improve signage

-increase ADA parking by 10% per game until complaints stop

Lastly, offer TCU students as Volunteer escorts from parking to game to departure. Students get free ticket, food voucher & compact foldable camping chair in a backpack.

Plenty of student pool to pull from.
