FORT WORTH – TCU baseball hadn’t won the opening game of a weekend series since March 25, 2023.

That changed on Friday after the Horned Frogs ran away with an early lead. TCU baseball defeated Baylor 5-1, extending its win streak to three games.

Starting pitcher Louis Rodriguez was at the forefront of TCU’s victory, holding the Bears to one run in six 1/3 innings of work. TCU head coach Kirk Saarloos said Rodriguez’s performance set the team up for a successful weekend.

For the people who follow more closely…does a sweep of Baylor, quality win against TX St and wining 2 of 3 at KSU get us into a regional?

IMO, there has been greater excitement and endorsement of playoffs...Big Dance, Big Show...than thinking that a conference championship is desirable....IMO, looking at the conference records from year 1 to the present leads some to believe the program(s) of the schools are good or bad...OUs football string of the 1940s, UTs string in the 1970s, Alabama's football string since Teddy Roosevelt was a sophomore (Hi, Perbole. How yu doin'?) gives such schools automatic prestige and worth to those who look that those things....Where I'm going is, TCU has a co-championship in football and non in men's basketball....Leading to (even if it's erroneous) a conclusion that the programs here suck....I did not read/see/"hear" disappointment after the loss to Kansas State because everybody knew that the Frogs were likely to be a top four team for the natty invitational....A mediocre men's basketball team was forgotten very quickly one the NCAA tournament bids were issued....Except for the disastrous score in the Georgia game, who will remember within 5--10 years that TCU had such a sterling season? Check the final standings and it will be Kansas State on the top and there won't be an asterisk to indicate that TCU played two more games than Kansas did....

The tourney gets you an autobid - that is the cache….geez do you people actually follow baseball
Cache = hiding place for concealing and preserving provisions or implements OR computer memory with very short access time used for storage of frequently used information.

Cachet = state of being respected or admired; prestige.

Same in basketball. In case he didn't know. And winning the conference championship game guarantees your team a spot in a new year's six bowl in you are in a Power 5 conference.

Glad that there is still some affirmation that conference championships have cache, merit, and value....
It matters when the powers that be want it to. Seems like every time we've won the conference tournament we've been a National Seed, plus it gets you an AQ to atleast get in.

I will not bet money on it, but it is still mathematically possible for TCU to finish 2nd in the conference. If the Frogs can win 2, then a 3rd or 4th place finish is reasonable. 1 or less wins vs K State, and it does not really matter anymore.
