Cig will probably tell Hoov to throw it to the first open receiver that's past the sticks and they march right down the field. Cig will dramatically slow the game down for him.

Cig tells his Qb/receivers every play to complete the pass is only 6 seconds so Hoov doesn't have time to review the whole field. hit the first open receiver past the sticks........sounds simple anyway, Wonder what Mendoza thought when he got to Indiana after Miami turned him down out of HS and he left Cal for Indiana.

I would say the same thing about Schobel.

I understand the history and magic of his last name, but what has he done here to warrant all of this love? I would hate to rush him and hinder his development because of his last name.

I have seen us play too many QBs too early and it cost us in the long run.

Honestly (and I have a comment somewhere in the fall practice thread) Schobel seemed more consistent and seemed to run more often during fall camp. It seemed like the receivers caught more of his passes, he had fewer errant throws - just from scrolling though the practice reports.

I don’t think he was more consistent. However, he definitely had a higher ceiling. Multiple reports said there were days where Schobel clearly looked better. But there were also days where he would get picked off and/or throw into triple coverage.

I do think if this Jaden Craig experiment continues to flounder, at some point you have to start Schobel. If your starting QB can’t consistently make passes beyond 10 yards down the field, defenses will have a field day.

These days, the really good players are in the draft in 3 years, freshmen are starting all over the place. 2 years of no playing leads to a 3rd year playing somewhere else. I saw Schobel in his state championship game, NFW is he anything close to what started in Ireland.

I’m willing to give the benefit of the doubt (kind of) that he was blinded by the lights in his first P4 start. Not that I think that’s a valid excuse coming from a fifth year player.
But if we see the same things against UCF, I fully support pulling him at halftime for Schobel. We heard all throughout practice how Craig would take off and run multiple times during practice. Yet he never took off once on Saturday. And I think that’s as much on the coaches as it is on him for not addressing that in-game.

Given that our head coach has a track record of picking the wrong guy at QB I think in our situation it’s even more reasonable to want to see the #2 guy.

If you look at USC recruits ( DE Luke Wafle & WR Trent Mosely) there is no way they were close to what USC had starting last year. If you watch highlights of last weeks game vs San Jose State, the 18 yos look like men amongst boys. Many of these young athletes continue their growth once they get out of HS and it has been since fall/winter of '24 that Schobel was in playoffs. You are probably correct about the State champ game but the kid has grown.

The reason that Craig did not do the run pass option is because Sammis didn't think it necessary. He looked at Sonny and determined he had brain lock as he did also with both having their eyes glazed over.
