Speaking of those officials...

My impression was that the officiating was exceedingly fair last night. I thought the early unecessary roughness call on the Frogs was questionable, but then Texas got called on a very similar infraction. TCU's first TD was awarded on a video review.

At least last night, it didn't seem like there was any home cookin' on the part of the officials.

Feel free to disagree. Discuss.

Nope. That was my impression too. The personal foul against Fields (yes? I think) looked legitimate and I appreciate the one called on UT for similar helmet-helmet contact.

It was similar to what I remember in the past. It wasn't what happened throughout the game, it was what happened at very key points in the game. That has always made the the belief of home cooking refs at UT was a reality. The holding calls in the 4th could have been real game changers. The problem was that ESPN only got one of them on a replay (one on Collins) so it was really hard to see if the other calls were warranted. Anybody at the game have an opinion?

Offensive line holding is a given on every play. It is legal to grab a players jersey as long as the hands are not outside the shoulders, and if a player who is being helds turns then it is still okay while oin the act of turning. The rules leave alot of ambiguity and holding COULD be called on almost every single snap. The problem with officating is when holding is only being called against one team.

This crew does many high profile Big 12 games including Texas - OU. Overall, I thought they did well, letting the teams play rather than calling every ticky tacky hold and PI. Thought the 4th qtr holding penalty on TCU when we were trying to ice the game was bad. TCU player drove UT DL (who was on an inside slant) to the turf without grabbing him. Seemed like there were lots more obvious holds than that during the game. How was that holding while others were not? I know the official who called it, so I will be giving him some grief next time I see him.

[sub]The refs were fair until the last two UT drives. Their O LIne held like they were Wilson Phillips' groupies on every play.[/sub]

Not complianing about this crew, I thought overall it was pretty even, my problem wiht the holding calls at all. I think grabbing the jersey pon the line should be illegal period. It is such s subjective call that it CAN be called almost every play. When the officials choose to call it, and the impact it can have on game is the problem. If they arer going to make the call on a team several times, they should call it on the other team.

There was no holding on Texas, but there was OBVIOUS holding on pretty much every play by the UT OLine

A UT fan in front of me turned around in the 4th and said if it weren't for the no-calls on holding they wouldn't even have 6.

There were a few iffy calls but for the most part I think it was fair. I think they got a favorable spot on 4th down in the 4th but look at the scoreboard.

Agreed, but when it's blatant with arms-hands around the defender or when you see jersey stretched or an arm around a leg then it should be called. I saw five or six blatant holds by UT's guards on Hunter, Lewis and Pierson that were ignored. Was driving me to distraction last night.

Also, there was a run by TB on a 3rd and 10 with 13:53 in the 4th were he appeared to be spun down but he kept running and may have scored but it was blown dead by officials. There was a replay of it but they didn't focus on TB but if you slow it down it sure looks like he rolled over the top of the defender. May have been blown by the officials.

Thanks, it seems like when the game is on the line the refs should only call the "flagrant" stuff. You hate to see a game be decided on such a subjective call:

UT got away with some O-line holding but conversely, TCU got away with a couple of instances of defensive holding....one by Cain on the final UT drive. On balance I think Frog fans can be satisfied with the officiating. I never did see the 15 yard unsportsmanlike act by Collins though....

When one team, TCU, has the more obviously strong pass rush...usually the other team gets called for more holdings. The other way around happened last nite.
Gimmie 2 holding calls on UT last nite and Id say it was well officiated.

It was fine until the 4th quarter when it looked like UT had a chance to start a comeback. Had we not made the big play to seal the deal, you can bet the refs would have helped keep things moving for the horns.

Is taking your own helmet off while you're on the field a PF in college ball? If so, watch Kenny Vaccaro after a tackle (on 3rd and long I think) along the near sideline late in the 4th quarter. Blatant removal of helmet and celebration on the field after the tackle, right in front of the refs.

Yup! Could not believe that went uncalled
