Close-but-no-cigar football tales are difficult to sort.
If a team loses a number of snug games, is it a sign they are right there, and will soon get over-the-top?
Or are the tight defeats more an indication of something inherently wrong that needs to be fixed?
For the Michigan State Spartans, the answer going into their bowl game Saturday night against TCU is a bit of both.
The Spartans aren’t that far from returning to an established pattern as a solid Big Ten contender. ...
