Sonny, Please say goodbye to Briles

Feels like we should move Briles up high for a game or 2. Maybe the perspective could change his perspective.
I agree. It may be a better perspective if TCU built him a bubble boy press box at row 23/50 yard line with a constant loop highlight video of the 2015 Russell Athletic bowl where Baylor ran roughshod over N. Carolina to essentially end Larry Fedora's career. 645 yards rushing, 6 different players 37 minutes T.O.P..

They had more than 7 weeks to install that offense (which UNC had never seen them run) and they also had a really talented OLine.

It was a brilliant one-off move that only worked because of when it happened and UNC had little data to prepare for it.

It did not only work because they had 7 weeks to install. I think it is possible maybe probable that Baylor had practiced "triage" situations in Fall camp/Spring where they spent time on the abandon pass game go with former QB as Jamielle Holloway wannabe.

My memory is hazy but I think the Baylor QB went down with a spine injury in early November. Baylor had a RS freshman Jarrett Stidham that many had as NFL Caliber and is currently playing in the NFL unlike most other B12 QBs. The Bravado by the Briles was off the hook and he turned into a robot by thanksgiving. I really do not think Baylor was installing run-oriented offense on the 1st of November (7 Weeks) . Once Baylor realized Stidham wasn't on function after TCU and UT beat them 11-25 to 11-29 is when they installed. So the Bears probably had 4-6 weeks max to install. You and I are splinting mice hairs but TCU has a similar opportunity today to install a package today.

I suggested on 3-4 occasions in August/ September that Nate Palmer, Jeremy Payne and K Barnes practice a hybrid Wishbone. I received ZERO replies and a few chuckles. Run this package on 3-4 series to throw coverages off and skew coverage angles on WRs. BTW where is Jordan Dwyer? Sprinkle this in and watch.

you realize Barnes was ripping 7 yards per carry, and then didn't get another handoff with 10:28 in the third?
True, but take a closer look.

Following that last handoff to Barnes, our remaining plays on that drive were 2nd and 19 and 3rd and 23. After we punted, K State then went on a 5-minute drive. We got the ball back and went on a 7-play TD drive with Payne taking his turn in the backfield for a series. After we scored, K state then went on a 6:44 TD drive. After they scored, we scored on a 1 play drive (the 85-yard McAlister pass). K State then took 2:03 off the clock with a 3 and out. We got the ball back and after a short pass to Barnes, threw a pick. K state then took 2:49 off the clock and kicked a field goal, taking a 3 score lead with 4:34 left in the game.

Where in that scenario is it an “abomination“ (as someone else suggested) that we didn’t hand the ball off to Barnes? On the Payne drive? It was his turn and we scored anyway. The first down play a couple drives later where we threw it to Barnes? The following 2nd and 8? OK, maybe one of those plays. Down 14 with under 8 minutes left leaves the run still an option at that point. But that’s it. One of those two plays, the first of which was a short pass to him in the flat anyway.

Plenty of things to criticize about Saturday’s offense without having to manufacture drama.

This is actually pretty damn funny. Great post.

edit: and so far one person has "liked" the post, and nobody has made the comment that yeah, you're kind of right, I take back all that crap about Barnes not getting the ball. Kind of says it all. Nobody really cares what is actually happening, they just want to take a convenient narrative and run with it.

OK I went back and looked at the pbp. Agree with @Frog-in-law1995. Here's why Barnes did not get more second half carries:
Two stupid penalties we had to start the drive with his last carry (delay of game and false start) putting us 10 yards behind the chains, resulting in a punt, and a KSU TD drive to make it 28-7 with 4:00 to go, 3rd quarter.
Next TCU drive -- Payne gets one carry for a yard, and the rest was all passing, ending with a Hoov TD pass to Curtis to make it 28-14 with 2:00 to go, 3rd quarter. Can't gripe about that drive.
Next KSU drive, 75-yards for eventual TD to make it 35-14, 10:00 to go 4th quarter.
Next TCU drive - 1 play, 75 yard TD, Hoov to EM.
Then we hold KSU to a 3-and-out punt.
Then came Hoov's second INT that led to KSU field goal, 38-21, 4:30 to go in the game. So now we have to pass. 4 incompletions later, turnover on downs, KSU kicks another FG, 41-21, 2;00 to go.
TCU gives to Battle for 5 yards. Hoov passing does the rest for the final TD pass to EM, 41-28 to essentially end the game.
SO I'M GOING TO TAKE BACK MY CRITICISM OF BRILES. This was a team loss, caused largely by Hoov's turnovers that handed KSU 17 points.
Let's bounce back against the Bears! Go Frogs!

I bet if the coaches looked at all the "I can't believe our dumbass OC stopped giving the ball to Barnes" crap on here, they'd wonder whether people even watch the games, or figure we've got some of the dumbest fans on the planet.

The problem I think most have is that the run game is never established. That is a calling card of Briles time at TCU. I know at Arkansas he had better personnel on the OL but his deficiency while wearing purple has been a reluctance to keep it on the ground when we aren’t having huge success early.

I watched the ASU MSU game earlier this year and was really impressed with Dillingham’s patience. On what should’ve been a game winning drive they ran the ball something like 14-15 times because MSU couldn’t stop it. If briles was more patient with the ground game the whole team, including a defense that doesn’t have a killer pass rush and a turnover prone QB, would benefit. I honestly believe if we come out and run the ball 6-7 straight times when we were down 14-7 we come back and win that game.

+ On TCU’s 1st drive of Q3, we had a 3rd & 5 @ the KSU 39.
* Hoover throws 2 incomplete passes on 3rd & 4th down. Turnover on downs.
* If we knew we were going for it on 4th down, why didn’t we just run twice for the 5 yds.??? Barnes was averaging 6.8 per carry!!!

+ On TCU’s 2nd drive of Q3,
* 1st down Hoover passing AGAIN! - Sack
* 2nd down Hoover passing AGAIN! - PICK 6 TD.

+ On TCU’s 3rd drive of Q3,
* Hoover delay of game.
* False Start
* Barnes 1 yd run. (Last carry of the game)
* Hoover Passing - Illegal forward pass 5 yds & Loss of down
* Hoover Passing - 13 yds, 10 yards short of the marker.
* Punt from our own 25 / 3 and OUT.
KSU TD FOLLOWED.

- Hoover passing, instead of Barnes running, is why we didn’t score on our 1st drive of 3Q
- Hoover passing on our 2nd drive is why we went down by 2 TDs
- Hoover mistakes and passing on our 3rd drive is why we had to punt from our own 25.

We abandoned the run and got ourselves into all kinds of trouble.
Run the skin of the pig!
