The O gave KSU this game, and that is on the coordinator. We lose by 13 which is less than the defensive scores. I don't think Dykes is as committed to Briles as some might suggest. He has gone after Briles before, and Briles got the message and turned it around. I would bet the patience is running thin again.

This season is starting to remind me of the 2023 season. We are scoring in garbage time. Briles can't seem to scheme open playmakers. He can't establish an offense. It's just hot and cold with him! Is he trying to lose games just to get back at TCU? Does he do just enough to not get fired, but still get his revenge on TCU? He should have never been hired in the first place! Briles just needs to do the honorable thing and go away, but honor isn't something known for.

As a whole I don't have that big a beef with him, but dear lord at times he makes some of the biggest head scratching calls I've seen. He tries to be too cute at times.

Credit to KSU for dropping a player in coverage to take away the slant game to McCallister. Also, there is something to the new clock rules and reducing the number of possessions there are in games. This definitely has some bearing on abandoning the run down two scores in the 4th quarter.

I think you misunderstood. With the clock changes teams are getting less possessions per game.

No, it was showing that those things don't have anything to do with abandoning the run late in the game. Number of possessions be damned. Good OC's always have as close to 50/50 balance or lean towards more runs. We had a rb that was averaging 7 yards a carry. Sticking with that would have probably won us the game. There's something to be said for grinding down a defense (not to mention demoralizing them) with a steady dose of running it down their throats. The top teams in the country do it. So should we. We were getting it done and just "poof" let it evaporate. 7 yards a play is solid, run or pass.

We abandoned the run COMPLETELY, when we didn't have to. Some offensive gurus might argue that by keeping Barnes chugging along, even at a slightly lower pace, would keep the defense more honest. That's part of the point of run/pass balance. Instead KSU was able to sit back in coverage knowing what we were going to do every freakin' play. Top 25 or not has nothing to do with good offensive philosophy.

Our closest comparison should be to Tennessee, and they are 51/49% in favor of the run. Heupel’s team runs our same base offense. They are 4th in total offense, with nearly 200 yards rushing and 327 or so yards passing.

well, 2021 when it really got settled was KJ Jefferson. That was 9-4 team and they were running a hurry up/spread/no huddle. He did run for more than 600 that year, I think. But he also had just north of 20 passing tds. It think 5 or 6 rushing tds.

but they handed off quite a bit as I recall.

You’re right, TCU abandoned the run. Barnes’ last carry was with 10:21 to go in the 3rd.
The really aggravating part is KSU was set up to stop the pass, especially McAlister over the middle for the big gainer. What I mean by that is KSU played a light box all day. They had 5 and sometimes 6 men in the box and a zone in the secondary just daring TCU to run. Why the hell didn’t we take what they were giving us??
Instead Briles played right in to KSU’s hand and threw the ball 47 times. It was pure panic!

And threw it when we had a couple of receivers that seemed to have the dropsies that say AND a qb that was struggling thru what looked like one of his worst games at TCU. So it’s not like the passing game was dialing up anything it wanted while we put Barnes on the shelf…..
