So who is the actual QB this week/moving forward?

I want to see Briles' gameplan against the Boomers' blitz and how Hoover executes it. Both Morris and Hoover struggled against the blitz-happy defenses of WV and KSU. They did not get much help from their OC - no screens, quick slants or go routes - and that needs to changes against OU.

It won't matter who is the QB - hell, we may see both of them considering how poorly the OL has handled pressure - but Briles has to give them hot reads/sting routes to beat the blitz. If he has JH/CM sit in the shotgun in the pocket, then they are toast and our season is over.

I’m rooting for Hoover, but I just want to win. My belief is that you should play the younger player if he’s equal to the older player for developmental purposes. My worry is that we go shopping, lose both of them, and have less depth than this year.

His game plan is the same for every game: fire drill, hurry-up clock management regardless of whats on the game clock, run up the gut for no gain, pass out to the flat for gain of two yards, end around for a loss of 15, talent scout the coeds in the stands.

And yet we’re averaging over 6 yards per play and there hasn’t been one bit of off the field trouble. That’s odd.

Possible Transfer Portal QBs
Blake Shapen - Baylor
Jaccurri Brown - Miami
Jayden de Laura - Arizona (must graduate though)
Sam Horn - Missouri (can play baseball too)
Ethan Garbers - UCLA
Max Johnson - A&M (must graduate)

The skinny is he is on pace to graduate either after this semester or next semester so he can transfer as a grad student. He's not sticking around after Sonny promised him he would be the starter the last two years.
It's a bummer for him but I'm sure we can find a transfer backup who could come off the bench in a pinch and be at least as effective as our offense was in Ames.

Was I supposed to type something here?
If "the plan" is like any of Briles' other plans, we're pretty much screwed. Against decent opposition, we haven't managed to consistently do anything, and OU has a pretty danged good defense.

While I have a great deal of confidence in Hoover, and believe he is The Man going forward, without protection to execute what he is tasked with he is as powerless as anyone else. Nobody looks good on their back with two or three D-linemen piled on top...

Are you talking about our offensive linemen here ? Or someone else. Please clarify.
You sort of skipped the important part of the preceding sentence, which gives meaning to the following sentence. The subject was protection, meaning he (Hoover) ain't getting much against decent defenses, and the result of this is either a busted play or a sack, leading to being buried under defensive players.

So, to sum up, our offensive line play has been sub-par against good defenses. This has led to ineffective offensive execution.

No. I got it. Poor attempt at humor while agreeing with your point. My bad.

I agree....Hoover should be the guy....Chandler is a soph and has already used his one free transfer to get here so he has a tough decision to make.......but I would hope he will stay with the knowledge and acceptance he is QB2.
With Hejne coming in that would make for a very strong QB room.

This offseason is setting up to be like the last, or worse as far as acquiring QB depth, IF, Hoover looks good versus Oklahoma. Then Hoover will be the favorite to start 2024, Morris likely transfers and Dykes will again have a heckuva a time trying to find a starting caliber QB in the portal to compete with or backup Hoover.

The Frogs QB depth may be worse next season because they may have a lesser backup to Hoover than Hoover was to Morris. Hopefully Hauss Hejny adapts to the college game quickly, but it is foolish to believe in true freshman as an answer.

But good news is, Hoover, as of now, has shown more durability going into the 2024 season as the most likely starter, unlike Morris coming into 2023.

The coach also has to determine - has Hoover earned the right to start next season because he doesn’t want to chase him away by bringing in a “better” option as a favored or predetermined starter. Hoover will be in his 3rd year at TCU and you have to have some loyalty to that if they have been on the excellent development path that every one had hoped for, and it appears that Hoover has.

I think this all may show that you want your QB depth to be coming from recruits that you developed in-house so that you have enough worthy backups. TCU needs to be recruiting at least one good high school QB prospect every year. The transfer portal is overrated for providing good backups. Better to have a full pantry of developing good starting QB candidates and have some transfer out, versus desperately depending on the portal to bring them in.

Edit: So, maybe worse than not being able to get a transfer QB this past offseason, was not recruiting a QB in the 2023 class. TCU recruited Hoover in the 2022 class and now he is the leader/probable starter next season. But this year, TCU was not grooming a similar caliber freshman behind him, and that doesn’t appear smart. So here we are, Morris may leave and the Frogs don’t have quailty behind Hoover.

I'd say Morris is too

Agree for the most part, but not completely true. Frogs offense looked pretty effective in the second half with the longhorns (they have a good defense). The O line protected well and Mad Vac was on target with all receiver, particularly Savion. Then, he exploited baylor’s sorry defense like he should, and Wiley really woke up. Plus, Hoover effectively added the extra element of keeping the ball on the read. (Wonder if he actually got the green light from Briles, or if he decided to ask for forgiveness later?)
Given the option of Mad Vac keeping the ball, Bailey’s rushing yards should increase, plus our receiving corps and Hoover are dialed in.
With protection and aggressive play from our O line (?), our offense should be just fine.
Now, it is time for our Defense to get a bit of this attitude…
