So What Changes?

I'm not an alum, but as diehard as they come. So what so should be changed? I'm proud of the Frogs this year, but I feel some things could change. Thoughts???

Start with passing production. We have more offensive problems than that, but solve that one problem, and it gets us at least halfway toward solving our offensive problems as a whole. We have one of the strongest receiving corps anywhere, but we aren't able to exploit them effectively because we simply can't deliver the ball consistently.

Solve that one problem, and though it doesn't get us home free, the problems with the OL and the OC play-calling become much more manageable.

I think you need some coaching changes (even if it's just to demonstrate the standards of performance the program aspires to). Not sure which one(s) as I don't know the subtleties of some things like recruiting connections, etc. I also would suggest a review of our offensive philosophy...what do we aspire to be and who can get us there? I recognize that any philosophy was challenged by any number of events this year including injuries, suspensions, etc but are we doing what we need and want to be doing to reach the top of the pyramid? Not so sure myself and I base a lot of this on how we approached games pre-TB. Another element I would look at is how we approach halftime as the 3rd Q was not kind to us this year in several games. I would also look for ways of speeding up defensive play calling to counter the hurry-up's we see a lot. (This was NOT an issue tonight) But I'm not sure you take much off the table from an extensive post mortem IMHO

1. Bring CP back. Find new hybrid position for TB. Thank him for his service but he is not a pure qb. Nowhere near enough accuracy for a D1 team. But he is an asset. Find a place for him

2. Double down recruiting quarterbacks...can't miss on them anymore. Good lord, make sure they can throw a semi accurate ball (sound simple?...we have 2 now that really can't)

3. Let the o-line grow...those 2 tackles will be good if not great. They need time.

4. Offensive coordinators. Flip a coin...reassign the loser. Don't care who. IMO they both suck but some here with more knowledge are convinced they are good at their job. I say we need one good one. This tag team experiment is old.

The OC's that we have are not competent. The offensive failures started last year at the Poinsettia Bowl in the first game without Fuente and have only gotten worse. Without change there, we will fall short of our goals next season regardless of whether CP comes back (I sure hope) and the natural development of our offensive line.

How would you like that crow served up when we win the conference next year?

Unfortunately gp is all about the defense and doesn't seem interested in making coaching personnel changes on the other side of the ball- has he ever let go a coach??

Give him a Patrick Batteaux role. It was always fun when PB was in at QB in season year 2000 in for Casey Printers. The opposing Ds were always confused of what was happening next. TB (a HEALTHY TB) could reek all kinds of havoc in '13 I believe.

Ha! I would love to have to eat some crow or some other foul tasting dish in exchange for that happening. I agree that whatever, at that point, would probably taste pretty good however served. As happy as I would be to take one for the team, so to speak, I just don't see that happening unless these 2 guys either learn something or we replace them with people who do.

Look our offensive coordinators are some of our best recruiters. I dont see them being demoted or fired. However if I were CGP I would make them go visit some other schools to learn how to better their offensive playcalling.

And I would also recruit OL and DL like crazy.

They are some of our best recruiters which is delimna. But, what, exactly do they have to sell right now? You're a receiver but we can't get you the ball? You're a running back, how well do you do running into 8 man fronts? You're an offensive lineman but we're going expose you to blitzes on every 2d and 3rd down because we basically concede first down with the same ineffectual plays?

At some point, I'm concerned that there will be diminished returns on their recruiting because this is not the same offense that made so many players productive under our previous OC.

It only took one year in the Big 12 to realize out passing game design is subpar, even before CP left.
