So, was that one of the worst Officiated games ever?

The Big 12 suspended a crew in early Sept. for mismanaging calls in the Missouri game. The OPI call last night was potentially more of a game changer.
Public discipline over a judgment call is a big can of worms probably best left unopened. As bad as the call was, McAlister was at least standing in front of the assigned defender when the pass was caught. The Mizzou crew flat out didn’t know the rulebook.

It's past time for full-time officials/refs. It is not a $$$ issue at the college level.

Admit it is broken and fix it!

Lead from the front B12!
Please add sliding pay scale & incentives.
Bad calls co$t you.
Worse calls you refuse to “discuss” with your crew, mo money.
Don’t like it? Go work @ Home Depot.

Yes, the Big 12 Conference does grade its football officials, and this process has been in place for some time, with improvements being made to increase accountability. An officiating supervisor reviews game tape and evaluates aspects like mechanics, judgment, and adherence to rules, providing feedback for training and development rather than solely for criticism. The results of these evaluations are accessible to the officials, who receive game reports and DVDs of their performance to aid in their improvement.
Well it’s not working. They are not improving. Curve is flat.

Don't make a call based on what you "think" you saw. If you don't see the whole play, keep your flag in your pocket.

Passed on to me by my mentor my first year in officiating, 1973. Best advice I ever received. Maybe the officials today weren't ever told that, and if they were, they forgot it.
Thank you.

I assumed that on the OPI, the TCU receiver (misidentified by the official) was flagged for a pick despite the lack of contact. But the 'authoritative' source Reddit tells me that contact is required for OPI, so, yeah, that was an incredibly bad call (and very late).

Also shocked that Barnes wasn't given the TD on the video review at the pylon. Would love to have heard the conversation in the Big 12 review office for that play. There's no way to geometrize that as anything but a TD.
First thing I thought was a “pick” call.

that was the worst call i've seen in a long long time.
Eric didn't even touch him. The way he ran and turned is allowed.
My dad said the Brian and the guys on radio were blasting the call.
Wasn’t there a replay showing that on screen, I mean like he waaaaaay missed?

At least it not a flag per play like we had in CUSA. It seems like they were being paid per penalty called. I remember many games where both teams were frustrated because no rhythm was possible with all the flags.

Notice how quickly the announcers quit after a brief discussion of the OPI call? Got the feeling there was an order from the director to shut up.

If that has happened to Bama or tOSU we would still be hearing about it today.

Was I supposed to type something here?

Being at the game, I never heard what the TV crew had to say about the call, especially after the replay was shown and there was clearly no interference.

The Networks have consistently protected the Officials, and will rarely, if ever, criticize them on air.

I might nominate the 2019 Baylor game was a co-worst officiated game...at least in terms of the final outcome....Someone posted a pic of a foot divot inside the end zone where the ref ruled that TCU player did not get across the goal line....Final score was 29-23, Baylor....5-7 season for the Frogs....

It’s not their job to criticize the officials.

Yup.

There was a long thread about that one, and the fact that the on-field crew ruled it a TD, but the Replay clowns overturned it even though there was not "clear evidence" that Max stepped out. This was a blatant reversal of the rule, but, hey! It's TCU! Why don't we screw them over and coddle Baylor!
