The Mayan calendar just ended today which is an end of galactic cycle. We just started a new cycle that takes thousand of years. Because their calendar ended with this last galactic cycle some took at as prediction of the end of the world. It appears that is incorrect interpretation.

There's another possibility here:
Let's say that at precisely 5:12am CST (the Yucatan peninsula, home of the Maya, is in the same time zone as we are), time abruptly stopped.
Everything in the universe frozen in time. And then, let's say 6 trillion years went by, and in the blink of an eye, everything started up again.
Here's the thing: if EVERYTHING stopped, we never would have noticed.
