So, do we have any Baseball players left?

Why would they bother with HS kids when they have to deal with 50% turnover from year to year. The portal is full of 20-21 yr olds. Wouldn't a coach prefer that over a kid straight out of HS?
If I were a coach in today’s environment, I wouldn’t put hardly any resources toward the bottom half of my roster. I’d just try and get the best 40-45 upperclassmen I could get every year and see what I could do. Rinse and repeat every year.

Trying to recruit and develop (and pay) high school kids makes no sense.

Bingo. Why waste the effort and time just for them to decommit.
I don’t think it’s the decommit thing that’s going to move coaches away from the HS recruiting trail. (Although I agree that’s going to factor in for a lot of programs.) it’s that existing college guys are a more known product that should produce on Day 1. For almost all HS players, there is a certain amount of projection as to how their game will fare at the collegiate level. (Cam Brown was a ”can’t miss” talent and a guy like Klecker comes in and beomes a Friday night starter within the first 3 weeks of the season…)

if I have a real hole to fill in my lineup this coming season, I want a transfer kid to fill it first and foremost. Then use high school signees to build overall roster depth and potential.

We have had some great freshmen contributors. Got to always recruit the best ones. However we must use the transfer portal to fill in those gaps we have due to the draft, those that transfer out, and those that just aren't cutting it.

I agree, I could see TCU dipping down in the G5 group or even D2 and start poaching established players from there as well.. Dog eat dog world and I don't like it.

Well someone has to train up those kids in the portal- their has to be a supply demand balance and now that we are past the COViD years finally - it should start to balance better

I think top tier D1 already only focus on the HS players that are the top of the class but then we battle MLB to see if they show up

Then we are poaching G5, Juco D1 and D2

But someone has to get the HS kids into the system and those schools that are not D1 have even less time and resources- thus why they focus on the largest consolidation of talent and that is still travel ball Toumey’s more than HS events

Expect that Cawyer and Caedmon Parker are both gone being drafted in the 11th round. Ayers was taken in the 13th but I think he was in the portal and gone even before he got drafted.

then it was already posted that Blake Larson was taken 68th in the draft and really doubt he will ever get on campus.

all in all this seems like a good news story for folks getting on campus that we will expect to perform at a high clip.
