SMU copying TCU football again. Do they ever do anything original??

Don't understand why SMU putting in grass is that big of a deal. Its a much better surface and prevents injuries. Yes SMU has had a bit of a resurgence so let them enjoy it. As for surpassing TCU football lets see what 2025 looks like but who really cares what SMU fans say about us, they are envious and I would be too.

Trying way too hard for some sports trash talk here. Good on them for putting in natural grass. Better and safer for all athletes... which is a good thing.
I wonder if they’ll make it safer for opposing fans too? I’ll never ever forget what they did to us in 2022. All of the ticket scanners were “malfunctioning” on the visitors side, so they had one line of one person hand entering ticket codes. That led to a line wrapped around multiple buildings full of people who didn’t have anywhere to go to the bathroom or hydrate. Then once inside, only one bathroom was “open”. And then they ran out of water at halftime when it was 100 degrees out.

THAT is why I’m perfectly happy not playing SMU anymore. That kind of bush league, borderline dangerous crap just isn’t worth it. Not to mention their sole existence for 20 years was “beat TCU” while we had bigger fish to fry. And yes, circumstances have changed, but I don’t want to deal with the BS. Plus, they’re third on my list of anyone I’d call a “rival”. The Baylor and Tech games mean 1000x more to me. Let them live with the fact their closest conference mate is 840 miles away.

Concur.
Complete lack of game day operational management bordering on breach of public safety responsibilities (out of water??!!).

TCU fans bitched and moaned about playing in Highland Park for over 25 years. Our administration finally listens to us about something and cancels the series. Now, all we do is [ hundin] and complain about not playing SMU in its crappy, high school stadium in Highland Park. Typical.

We don’t miss playing them in basketball or baseball and I won’t miss playing them in football either. The only TCU fans who miss SMU were around when we were both in the SWC or WAC. No current student or alumni will miss SMU.

If we can regularly play and beat a team that is regularly competing for a P4 conference championship, it is a no brainer. Given the past 5 years, I'm not sure we're going to regularly beat them, AND I'm not sure they'll regularly play for a P4 conference championship. That is a problem.

Their last baseball team was in 1980, 45 years ago. Hard to schedule them now.

SMU is now a P4 opponent within easy driving distance as a road game and would be a far more interesting opponent than another FCS school to fill our home schedules. And, yes, a historical rival. Resume the home and home series.
They've improved the stadium and say they've improved gameday ops: https://smumustangs.com/news/2024/8/2/football-new-league-new-gameday.aspx#:~:text=SMU has made numerous improvements, signage and traffic flow improvements.
The article says they open Aug.31 against Houston Christian. Does anyone know what that is?

I agree. They have made the effort to start investing. Having them do well in the ACC gives us a good opponent. If both teams are doing well in their P4 conferences, that game attendance will be solid.

A total Frog fan here, but I'm fearful that the best days of athletics for TCU have been played....

Understand your point and I made sure to enjoy the HELL out of the Rose Bowl, Peach, and both Fiestas.

But I like to believe that TCU will find a way to adapt and succeed in whatever the next iteration of football is. That said I hate where college athletics is going so for that reason you may be correct...

The only program I can think of that’s on the decline is maybe men’s basketball.

Football: slightly improved (depends on how you view the season as a whole; I say improved after finishing 6-1 with only loss on the road by 3 against a QB we had little to no tape on)

Women’s BBall: strongly improved (won Big 12 and made elite 8)

Baseball: so-far, improved (pretty good considering losing our ace for the season)

Men’s tennis: #2 in the nation coming off a natty last season

Women’s tennis: neutral

Volleyball: improved

Beach volley: just won natty

Men’s golf: improved

Women’s golf: neutral to slight improvement

Track: don’t follow enough to know but seems to be good
