MN, are you in Minneapolis? Played a course there many moons ago. I remember this one hole where you tee’d off to a blind green at the bottom of a significant cliff. Or, did I dream that?

Hard to say, we have over 400 courses in our state, it's golf crazy. But, its likely the 13th hole at Mississippi National, Highlands hole 13. Were you staying at Treasure Island Casino in Red Wing?

If not, it could be one of many others, but this is the one that comes to mind first.

TCU's Mateo Fernandez de Oliveira with a sharp 69 in the first round of the Western Amateur. He's given back a couple of strokes through 9 holes of Round 2, but still sits T25 in a stellar field. Top 44 after today advance to the final 36 holes of stroke play tomorrow; after that, top 16 go on to match play. Follow progress here:

Update: Second-round 76 means FdO misses the 36-hole cut by a shot.

While most are focused on the golf action in San Francisco, up the coast Paul Barjon is having another good week at the Korn Ferry Tour stop in Portland, T8 through 36 holes. If he holds or improves, he projects to be back into the top 5 on the points list. Brief highlight here: https://www.pgatour.com/korn-ferry-...birdie-putt-on-no--15-at-the-winco-foods.html

And a quick shoutout to Julien Brun, who posted his first top-10 finish in quite a while in Austria on the European Challenge Tour last month. https://www.europeantour.com/challenge-tour/euram-bank-open-2020/results?round=4

Top 5 after this week earn a spot in the US Open so a big weekend for Paul.

Paul Barjon's chances for a win in Portland ended early with a pair of doubles on the first six holes. But he fought back with three back-nine birdies, including one at the last to finish in a four-way tie for 2nd. T2 instead of T6 jumps him up to 5th on the points list and earns him a start in the 2020 U.S. Open at Winged Foot.

Congrats, Paul!

Mateo Fernandez de Oliveira qualified for the U.S. Am (not sure which exemption category got him in; one included golfers in the top 225 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking and FdO is just outside that at 239).

Anyway, stroke play opened today at Bandon Dunes and Bandon Trails. FdO was +3 through 11 today but fought back to finish Even. Currently that's T45 but lots of players still out there. He will probably need a sub-par round tomorrow to get into the top 64 who qualify for match play.

Mateo FdO is -2 through 12 holes of Round 2 of stroke play at the U.S. Amateur. He currently sits T21 and will advance to match play if he keeps his score in red figures. The final stretch of Bandon Trails includes the three hardest holes in terms of field scoring average.
