7. TCU will be in the Big 12 title hunt in late November. In 2012, the Horned Frogs were the league's youngest team -- playing a quarterback who was a tailback until the Thursday morning before the fifth game -- and they still managed a respectable showing in their first season in the Big 12. Whether Casey Pachall returns at quarterback or Trevone Boykin remains, TCU should score enough to overcome opponents stifled by what should be the Big 12's best defense. The deepest league in America is tough to predict, but TCU should be the most improved team in it. We'll be able to gauge that improvement immediately, because the Horned Frogs open the season against LSU at Jerry Jones' Football Emporium and House of Chicken and Waffles.

Schools must pledge their television rights to the league for the length of their media deal. If a school leaves, the league retains the ability to sell the television rights for that school's home games. One former conference bigwig described the Grant of Rights this way recently: "It's like telling someone they can marry my wife, but I'm the only one allowed to sleep with her."

Lots of preseason talk already about Frogs. If Pachall comes back and produces in the spring, the sound will get louder, believe me... CBS talk show guys have also picked us in their last show of the year.

Then all we have to do is get linebacker straight. JC's?

Deryck Gildon will be back next season, and if Sammy Douglas can put on some weight he should be able to contribute. We should be good at LB.

And of course a lot depends on whether a year-older OL and guys like Green and Catalon (to say nothing of...we hope...Johnson) can get a running game going...

now people expect us to be good... i guess its all part of it

I think we will be OK at linebacker next year, expecially considering that frequently we will only play one. The big question mark is the offensive line. We need Dunbar and the Thompsons to come back and be effective, need Hunt to hit the weight room, maybe need Colllins to move in to guard, and gee, I would like to add a good juco player who can help right away.​

I have always relished the underdog role that the Frogs have played. Now we are expected. Let's beat Michigan State and look forward to a better 2013!
