Scottsdale Info?

A couple of us are thinking about making last minute plans to head to AZ. We'd be driving and probably staying in Scottsdale. Can any of you recommend a good, inexpensive place to stay, as well as some nice golf in the area? I'd rather avoid a resort type of green fee ($100-$150). Also, would Scottsdale be the best place to stay?

I got a great rate at the Hyatt House Hotel in Old Town Scottsdale for a two bedroom suite at $175 per night (separate rooms with a living room and kitchen)!!!! Great location near the bars and restaurants in the Scottsdale entertainment district. Not far from Tempe and though I don't play golf, I'm sure plenty of courses nearby.

Desert Canyon is a pretty good one. It's fairly cheap if you book a week in advance.

Scottsdale is a great place to stay. Tons of restaurants, shopping, golf, etc. and it's very close to the stadium. Try FireSky Resort. They have a bowl special going on. It does not have a golf course on site.

I'm staying at the same hotel, but my rate is $195/night for the 2 bedroom with the livingroom and kitchen. $20/ night doesn't sound like a huge difference, but we're staying 4 nights and have 4 rooms ($320 total difference in cost). Did you negotiate the $175 rate?

I did negotiate the price. I wear out the agents with the various hotel membership cards I have when making reservations, as I try to find bargains. That being said, I still would have been very happy with the $195 price you got.

They are $79 prepaid. I've never stayed there, but it is a good location near a gold course and a mall.

That's where we are staying - Scottsdale - Phoenician, but it isn't cheap. That's where the general (wife) wants to stay.

Man, that sounds like a hell of a deal. We'll be golfing, bar hopping, etc... so we really just need a place to get a few hours of sleep each night. I'm liking the sound of those. i can look but I might as well ask, are either of those places close to Old Town Scottsdale/bars and restaurants?

Old town is a few miles away from this Embassy Suites and a little closer from the Doubletree and the Hilton Scottsdale. I know Embassy Suites usually gives some extras and probably a bigger room.

We've stayed at the HGI Old Town, but they are charging a lot for the location right now. You could easily walk from there, but they are getting about $50 more per night.

Staying at the Doubletree Scottsdale Paradise Valley, which was mentioned above for about $90. It looks really nice and can get your Hilton points.

Lot's of good hotel deals in my opinion. Seems like the Phoenix area hotels are smart in attracting visitors for both bowl games by having competitive prices.

Got a room at the Hilton Scottsdale for $59/night. She originally said the rate was around $119/night, then I mentioned the specials that were linked in the other thread (link below) and she took it to $101/night. I then asked her about the "Thank You Rate" that's mentioned in that link in the Terms and Conditions section, and she said that's normally an employee rate but she gave it to me anyway... hell of a deal.

Now, where should we golf?

Considering the "Econo-Lodge Omaha" that Riggs and I stayed at for the CWS, I'm sure an Embassy Suites or Double Tree aren't too low-brow for him and his buddies

At those rates, people should reconsider if they are not planning to go. Really nice places to stay at great rates.
