Do players who've used up their college eligibility have to declare for the NFL draft? Aren't they automatically eligible? I don't remember all these stories (or social media posts) about guys declaring for the draft who've used up their college eligibility. Maybe it's self-promotion to get into combines and pro days, etc.? But I would think NFL scouts would have all the info they need/want.
Anyway, good luck to Cooper. You gave us a good year.

It said he was a fifth-year senior but I was wondering if he had a sixth year? Like you I didn't otherwise understand why he is "declaring" if he is not eligible for another college year.

Yes, because not everyone will want to play in the NFL. Some "retire" after college.

I think the newest rule that is not really followed is the one that says as long as the player is under 30, they MAY have eligibility!
