SB Nation: TCU Football Bowl Projections

This guy says since Donati is no longer at TCU, Donati was not involved. When I asked when the process of declining the Liberty began, he replied that you can't decline when you're not invited. He hasn't replied when I asked why TCU was not invited, nor why a team we beat and finished ahead of did get the invite.

Traditionally bowls have the option to select teams with an equal number of wins, or even a team with one fewer win. It isn't a straight selection order; if it was, there wouldn't be the annual game of predicting who is going where.

This is why UT and OU (and schools like them) have historically received better bowls. It's entirely possible that Tech travels better than us to lesser bowl games (vs. NY6 etc.).

Who are those sources? Guessing you mean the source the reporter mentioned?

Seems like every part of this story has a well substantiated source.

He seems almost as famous as that unnamed source fella.
I mean, there are multiple public reports of TCU saying this isn't true, as opposed to a few people implying that Jeremy said he heard something.

The only thing that I've ACTUALLY physically seen in this thread are the former.

So I see two theories: Dykes and TCU let our outgoing AD make the decision (on his own, with no input from or awareness of others) for us to decline a better bowl, or the Liberty Bowl did what they are allowed to do and selected a team with the same number of wins.

Wish people wouldn’t just make [ Finebaum ] up. From the FW Star Telegram.

The social reaction online was one of disappointment by TCU fans as they were expecting an opportunity to play another power conference opponent. There were also questions about whether former athletics director Jeremiah Donati turned down a potential invite to the Liberty Bowl. Donati accepted the AD job at South Carolina and the Gamecocks officially announced the hire on Thursday. The Star-Telegram reached out to TCU and a school spokesperson was adamant that TCU didn’t and wouldn’t turn down an invite to a bowl game and that TCU’s selection was based in part on the log jam of 8-4 teams in the Big 12. The three other teams listed above were picked for the more appealing destinations and matchups.

So if TCU rejected an invite to the Liberty Bowl do you think anyone would admit to it now?

You can bet that the players will be just as apathetic about going to NM as we are. I foresee a bunch of opt outs, meaning a bunch of down the depth chart guys will be getting some playing time.
I’m curious, how does that work? Do any/all opt outs have to declare now & forego practice to allow underclass to compete & play? Or is it all honor system?

Albuquerque dining FYI

El Sabor de Juarez is just outside the airport 2 miles from the stadium and opens at 8 a.m. Fine pick for a Saturday AM breakfast

Also, eat a Blake's Lot-A-Burger with green chile

And Duran's Central Diner is an old-time drugstore counter

Won't salvage the trip to Albuquerque but might make it more tolerable

TCU media puppets being fed a script is a huge indication TCU up and is poorly conducting damage control

Need an external AD 100% now

^^^ I believe this is true. As I pointed out in another thread, ST's Steven Johnson attributed comment from TCU to an unnamed spokesperson. Why? Why can't someone put their name on that statement? Was it Cohen? The interim AD? The hell's going on? Too much smoke here for me to believe that TCU was simply passed over.

A couple of thoughts.

As people have said if we did indeed decline, no one would ever admit it. Especially, after everybody skipped us over (don’t think that wouldn’t be intentional)

Even we didn’t decline an invitation, our AD was too busy looking for another job to make sure we got our rightful place.
