After three years as the TCU Football Offensive Coordinator, Quarterbacks Coach, and Associate Head Coach, Kendal Briles has his sights set on a return to the SEC. According to first reporting by FootballScoop.com and other sourcesconfirming the report, the South Carolina Gamecocks have targeted Briles as the primary candidate for its open Offensive Coordinator role, with expectation that the deal will be finalized this week.

Kendal Briles joined Sonny Dykes’ staff in 2023 as the Horned Frogs were coming off an undefeated regular season and trip to the CFP National Championship game. In the three seasons with Briles on staff, TCU has a regular season record of 21-15 (14-13 in Big 12 conference play), missing a bowl in 2023 and winning the New Mexico Bowl in 2024. In 2025, TCU finished the regular season ranked seventh in the Big 12 with 30.8 points per game, ranking 14th in the league in rush yards per game and 3rd in pass yards per game. Briles had also been linked to the open OC opportunity at Ole Miss and head coach opportunity at North Texas before Neal Brown was hired in Denton.

I’m going to play devils advocate here, but I think Briles is a good OC that didn’t have the weapons he needed at his disposal because of poor player/team management by Dykes. He has for three years, had to deal with the worst offensive lines i’ve ever seen at TCU. And on top of that, he hasn’t had a dual threat quarterback he needs to make his system work properly. I think if he has those two things, we would have probably won a lot more games. That being said, he has made some pretty awful play calls too. His red zone play calling is probably the worst aspect of his system.

I don't think you are playing devil's advocate. I think that is an accurate assessment.

I am starting to wonder if this staff actually admits these issues exist and formulate a solution? Surely they are watching TT play right now and have heard the references to their TP success this year?

Perhaps, but it is partly his job to get the players, right? And he's also responsible for getting the most out of the players he does have. I think Briles is a goodish to decent OC but he's replacement level. A lot of people could do as much as he does and none of those people would also be Kendall Briles. If you don't need a Briles, why have one?

Agree completely, some of our fans just can’t get over the name Briles. Let’s see if they are happy next year ( offense better be the same or better)

Not 100%, but some. What does Sonny do?

You should read my other post on another thread on the topic...
