No. His act would not last long in the NFL.

He is far too in your face for guys making more money than their coaches, and the players would get tired of it before too long.

I get caught up in the win part of the question. If Gary wins a NC here then go do whatever.

I think a lot of Gary's defensive scheme is predicated on college QBs not being NFL-quality passers.

I'm no defensive x's and o's guru, but based on what I've seen, Patterson rolls the dice with a lot of coverages, assuming that a college QB can't thread the needle and make that throw. Not sure that style of D would fly in the NFL.

RG3
Sam Bradford
Alex Smith
John Beck

All tore us apart

He focuses on stopping the running game and dares QBs to beat his secondary, which they usually can't do, because they're usually mediocre college QBs. When's the last time a team with a crappy QB scored a bunch on us? That's why we were able to dismantle UT when they were on offense, David Ash sucks

I agree with your point, although a lot of RGimp3's success against us was because we sucked [Richard] on defense that year, especially those first few games.

Sam Bradford definitely tore us apart, although a lot of that was the deep ball.

We did a pretty good job against Kellen Moore in Poinsettia and Fiesta... I guess he's not an NFL QB although he was one of the best college QBs ever.

Did we play against Alex Smith? Not being the, "you point is totally invalid because of this one small detail" guy. Just a niners fan and I don't remember if we were in the MWC by the time Alex left for the nfl and spared us all to death the last 6 years.

Did TCU ever go up against Alex Smith?

I somewhat agree, but we did do fairly well against the likes of Colt Mccoy (it was Charles that killed us that 2nd half), Max Hall, Caleb Hanie, and more recently, Geno Smith (who is projected to be a 1st round pick) and Landry Jones.

A lot of that coverage by Verrett and McCoy was very good, but RG3 just placed the ball absolutely perfectly.

And yeah, we weren't great on defense at that point, but RG3 and the WR (blanking on the name) made us look a lot worse than we were.
