Salt Lake Tribune: Cougars carry on as MWC's top stockpiler of keepsakes

Mountain West hardware is all but counted, and a familiar specter repeated as the collector of the most trophies, a sustained appetite that's prevailed for a dozen years. A year after winning 11 championships, BYU produced nine conference championships and tournament winners in the 2009-2010 school year, followed by TCU with five. We can safely assumeTCU will make it six if the Frogs win the MWC baseball tournament as expected this week.

We are actually already at 6 and can get to 7 this year if we win the MWC baseball tourney. I think that would be our record in the MWC. Won 6 in 05-06 and 07-08.

+1...this article says we have five but then says...

TCU won the most enviable prize by annexing the football title, and, as expected, baseball's regular season; men's swimming and diving; women's basketball and both men and women's tennis.

Umm...I count six -

1) Football
2) Baseball Regular Season
3) Men's Swimming and Diving
4) Women's Basketball
5) Men's Tennis
6) Women's Tennis

Nice job counting, Dick.

The other thing that should be noted but won't be by the hometown DMN (Deseret Mormon News) is that TCU has won three of the big four sports in the MWC. Interest in college sports goes football, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball. Frogs have clearly been the best in 3/4 of the major sports contested in this conference, this year and overall since joining the conference.

Nope. New Mexico won women's, CSU won men's.
