With NIT title in sight, TCU again standing in Texas’ way

NEW YORK — There’s something to be said for the fact Texas is still playing basketball in April.
A select few teams are still suiting up for games. And though the Longhorns admittedly would have preferred an invitation to the NCAA tournament, they’ve enjoyed this run to the NIT semifinals, scoring wins over South Dakota State, Xavier and Colorado.
“It’s challenging, yeah,” Texas coach Shaka Smart said Monday. “It’s interesting, man, because it’s April 1 and on one hand, there’s a real appreciation on the part of us as coaches and I think these guys as players to still be playing, still be competing and have a chance to win a championship.
