It the restaurant open to non-hotel patrons?

I have already booked my stay in Las Cruces.

Yes sir, non-hotel patrons are certainly welcome. In the handful of times I have stayed there, I noticed they actually have a pretty good crowd of people coming to eat and drink who aren't staying at the hotel (at least on weekends).

The same family also owns La Posta, which is right down the street and is moderately famous for its link to the wild west days (stopover spot for Billy the Kid, Pat Garrett, Pancho Villa, etc.).

La Posta is more of a traditional Mexican spot, whereas Hacienda de Mesilla has a slightly more upscale and diverse menu with steaks and seafood and such to accommodate hotel patrons that might not just want Mexican food.

I've eaten at both. I like La Posta better.

I was exploring ideas just in case the opportunity for me to go did come up.

For those driving the southern route, go early. Watch the Sun Bowl on the 30th then drive into AZ after the game (also a Bowl Game in Tucson that will likely be cheap on the 30th if not up for Sun Bowl). Plus I think the hotels are much less expensive in Tucson and only about an hour and half from Phoenix I think.

Thoughts on southern route vs northern route through the mountains? I understand northern is more scenic but a little longer drive. Any weather issue with roads on the northern routes?

Jug is leaving Friday night from SA and then driving back on Monday. I have room for two more comfortably.

If you’re down, I’m down.

For those driving what is your plan? Leaving the 29th hoping to make it to Las Cruces.
Leaving on the 28th from flower mound. Driving to ABQ and staying the night. Finishing the drive on the 29th to our Airbnb on the north side of Phoenix that we are sharing with some friends. We will then drive from PHX to Amarillo on 1/1 and finish the drive on 1/2.

We debated trying to do the entire drive to PHX in one day, but realized that may not be the smartest idea.

We are doing the northern route through ABQ as we can spend one night there. The wife and I used to live there, so we are hoping to hit a favorite place or two during our brief overnight in the foothills of the Sandias.

I did notice that the southern route is maybe 20 minutes shorter and without the ABQ sentimentality, that might have swayed us.

There is a ton of pregame parties listed. Anyone have some insight? Suggestions? This is not my first bowl game, but my first of the majors. My wife has a ton of cousins in Scottsdale so I am familiar with the area, but open to unique adventures if anyone has a suggestion.

I also have a 2-bedroom guest house rented on a beautiful property near Scottsdale. The couple that was going can't go now. If anyone wants the second bedroom just IM me. Place has a pool and an indoor sauna and firepits outside. $500 for 3 nights. We paid $1100. We are staying close to Scottsdale for the bars and clubs there. Not sure if yall have been, but they have freaking giant clubs in Scottsdale. I am 42 and my wife is 46. Im the TCU grad and my wife is a huge TCU fan. Looking to get crazy at the bars, but staying relatively nice and quiet at the house. No we arent really swingers. Sorry to disappoint even though its fun to play one. We will also have a rental car and can pick up from the airport if you need it. We fly in at 7am from Houston on the 30th and we are staying till the 2nd. Our check-in is 12 I believe.

Here is the listing if you are interested.
Playing golf Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
Eating dinner AND DRINKING BOURBON and wine every night.
Playing in a poker tournament at Talking Stick casino Friday night.
Celebrating New Years with a TCU beat down of Michigan

There was a place out in the middle of nowhere that had a party the last time we were out there. I can’t remember the name for anything but I do remember the burgers were pretty good. There were several TCU and Boise fans there is what I do remember.
