Heath’s Hoover off to a good start in TCU season opener

Former Rockwall-Heath High School standout Josh Hoover threw for 353 yards and the go-ahead touchdown with 3:13 to play to lead TCU to a 34-27 season-opening road win over Stanford last Friday night.
Hoover, who played Lou Gehrig to incumbent starter Chandler Morris’ Wally Pipp last season when he was had to take over for Morris in the sixth game of TCU's season after he suffered a sprained MCL. Hoover responded by completing 37 of 58 passes for 439 yards and four touchdowns in a 44-11 win over BYU.
The Hawk-ex started the final six games of the season for the Horned Frogs. He became the first TCU quarterback since at least 2005 with 300-plus yards passing in five of his first six career starts – one of just two FBS players in 2023 to do so – and finished his redshirt freshman season throwing for 2,206 yards and 15 touchdowns. Morris transferred to the University of North Texas.
