Always clever, with just the right tricks on a lyric or a guitar lick, and an uncanny knack for blending different guitars to reach a unique sound that was instantly recognizable. He also seemed like a really great guy.

Very sad news. Tom Petty was incredibly talented. A musical genius. He made it sound easy.

So many songs of his evoke a thought, a memory, an emotion. Beautiful musician.

He will be missed.

I must be getting old. All of my childhood idols are dying.
Petty was awesome in a way others never were. I never thought of him as a great singer or a great guitarist, but he consistently made music that was a lot of fun to listen to.

Very catchy tune. Give it a listen.

I wore out his Wildflowers album. Great songs. Bought his box set, highly recommend it btw.

The thing I most liked I think is he always had a song for everything it seemed. Whether you were on the lake, on a drive going nowhere, or in the city on a misty fall day, he had a song that could nail that mood and atmosphere. He was one of the greats.
