If you don't already know, Kris Kristofferson was one of the greatest country songwriters of all time. You've probably fallen in love with one of his songs, performed by another singer, without realizing it. Most likely, "Help me make it through the night," or, "For the good times," or, "Loving her was easier."
Personally, I challenge anyone with children to listen to him singing, "From here to forever," without getting misty. Bonus points for marrying Rita Coolidge.
"I had a list of rules I made up one time. It says: Tell the truth, sing with passion, work with laughter, and love with heart. Those are good to start with anyway."

Willie is weeping tonight.

Kris Kristofferson, Country Singer, Songwriter and Actor, Dies at 88

He wrote songs for hundreds of other artists, including “Me and Bobby McGee” for Janis Joplin and “Sunday Morning Coming Down” for Johnny Cash, before a second act in film.

One other one I'll mention, one of my faves, is, "Sunday Morning Comin' Down." Johnny Cash made a big hit out of it, with a "radio-friendly" version of the lyrics. But Kris's version is one of the most haunting, evocative songs you'll ever hear- If you enjoy songs that paint a vivid picture, that one's a must. A brief excerpt:

Well, I woke up Sunday mornin'
With no way to hold my head that didn't hurt
And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad
So I had one more for dessert
Then I fumbled in my closet through my clothes
And found my cleanest dirty shirt
Then I washed my face and combed my hair
And stumbled down the stairs to meet the day

He was so great in A Star is Born. That original version with him and Streisand was so much better than the Bradley Cooper/Lady Gaga version. Quite a talented and fascinating man. RIP KK.
