RIP Fred Cox

Fred Cox passed away at the age of 80. He was a longtime kicker for the MN Vikings and played his entire career with them. Also credited with inventing the Nerf football.

At the time of his retirement he was top 3 in scoring; he was one of the last of the straight on kickers.

I was fortunate to know him as he lived on our street for a time and my dad was a friend of his.

Great guy. RIP

I saw the Vikings play the Giants in an exhibition game in August of 1967 @ the Yale Bowl and Cox kicked a 54 yard field goal at a time when the NFL record was 57.Pretty impressive for a straight on kicker.
