I'm looking forward to junior season Boykin.

One pass was batted up into the air at the line and BCarter made a diving catch for a 4 yard gain. Another pass was a WR screen to Skye that he had to dive for to pick up 1 yard. Two passes were to BJCatalon.
The two passes to Fuller and one pass to LDBrown are the only notable passing plays in the entire game for us.
Here's the question though. How good is Matthews going to be and will Boykin stay as the backup roll to him, assuming CP4 comes back next year. If he does both Boykin and Matthews get an extra year of practice and I think we see Boyin comming in to run plays akin to Matt Brown last year and/or the WildFrog.I'm looking forward to junior season Boykin.

I remember the broadcasters say that the Texas d-line doesn't react or try to anticipate zone read plays and what not. They just charge full force for better/worse and if they miss, hope that their linebackers and safeties clean up.
I think that along with having success running it those first two series, and thankfully getting ahead early, pretty much went into "If it ain't broke don't fix it" mode.
No, I'm not going to want Boykin to throw 60 times a game in order for us to win, but I'm not going to say the passing offense bites rear end either. 7/9 is a good percentage and the only one he really threw bad was the one picked.
I'm not sure if he was injured throwing or not, could have also played in effect, but we had success the first few times, keep doing it.
And, as mentioned above, a few pass plays turned into running plays due to UT's aggressiveness, thankfully which Boykin also exploited in most of his scrambles when they were necessary.

I think there were some more pass plays called, but they turned into quarterback runs because Texas was bringing a lot of pressure. They have been telling Boykin to run more if he doesn't see someone open right away, and that's what he did.
Meh, Matthews doesn't exist at the moment. Maybe he's great and Boykin becomes the next Marcus Jackson. Maybe he needs time to develop and Boykin gets another couple years to start. Who knows. As it is I think it's only fair to assume Boykin will be starting come 2014.
I've often wondered about the dreaded burning of a redshirt! You've got a player that is learning the system and if you play him the last game of the year he loses it! But at the same time if you burn it the last game(excluding Bowl game) he has two great quarterbacks coming back next year why not redshirt him again? No matter what the player will not play one year because of Boykin coming back then there is Casey coming back. The Oklahoma game is going to show the world of things to come! If Matthews is as good as they say with the arm let him air it out against Oklahoma.
I hope I get as drunk as you tonight.

Easily your dumbest post ever.
Just curious but what's the redshirt rule? If you play a player anytime during the redshirt year he loses the redshirt! Can he redshirt the following year? Yes!
Does he have a chance to play next year with Boykin and Casey coming back? Doubtful!
Does Boykin have the arm (not 100%) or technique to pass this year? You be the judge!
Does Oklahoma have the best defensive back scheme this year? Yes!
Will TCU have to pass and run to win against OU? Yes!
Will TCU play Matthew against OU? No!
Sorry was just stating the obvious which is CGP will put the best players on the field against OU! So your saying "If" he was capable of helping TCU win against OU we wouldn't do it because we don't want him to play because of a redshirt that can be put back on next year? That would be the dumbest post to me!

Crazy.....crazy like a fox
I think Patterson would rather have him available an entire season to play mop up time than throw him to the wolves against the best team in the conference trying to win a conference title, but that's just me.
Never having had the problem, personally, of TWO bench-warming years back-to-back, I'm not really confident in my comment, but . . .
I would hate to be a redshirt a whole damn season, then be thrown in as an inexperienced player facing one of the toughest defenses around for one game (or a part of one game), and then come back the next year and face being a redshirt the whole damn season again. That would have to be discouraging, and maybe make a transfer to an FCS school seem like a possibility.
It'd be different in the Nick Florence situation, where Nick burned a redshirt because the starter wasn't able to go, and then got a chance to start the next year. But to play maybe 10 - 15 minutes of football the first 2 years on the squad, and like it, would take an awful lot of dedication.
