Reviewing the season -- what happened to us at OSU?

I was looking back at our season. I certainly understand the Iowa State loss. Iowa State played some good games early in the season, but I suspect that we beat them if under different circumstances. Considering OSU's season, I don't see how we were just run off the field by them. I think that it has to be the low point of the season. Why were we not competitive that day?

Texas Tech triple overtime, IMO. Tired and ran out of gas. Plus their halftime adjustments were apparently better than ours.

Texas Tech is the game that hurts. That should have been a relatively easy win. A couple guys on defense played their worst games of the year and the offense fooled around for too long in the 2nd half.

Oky State was bad though... especially offensively.

That game is the first HCGP Coached team at TCU I ever remember playing like they were out of energy the 2nd half. OSU flat out steam rolled us the 2nd half . They ran around us and through us .Of course Offense had absolutely nothing that game , and D was on the field way too long.

Didn't SM get hurt vs. Tech? We had no pass rush without him. They double and triple teamed Fields. I remember Lunt had all day to throw it in Stuillwater and they ground us down in the second half.

We were actually up at half. Patterson has said before that we just had no gas to turn up in the second half.

Agree a lot of it had to do with being out of gas but the offensive playcalling in that game was easily the worst since the Boise St Fiesta Bowl game.

Maponga got hurt against Baylor and missed Tech and OSU. It was Foltz that got dinged up playing Tech ... can't remember if he played against OSU or not.

I was at that game and could tell the players were spent by halftime. At least on defense they were. Offense couldn't get a good drive going all game and that killed our D. That triple overtime hurt us bad!

EDIT: Best I remember Tech had a horrible game after that too.

It is the one loss I chalk up to a young team and a tough schedule. It would have been nice to have a bye or a FCS school that week.

All of you complain about Offensive play calling, but thank about it a bit. We have had a thinner run game, a passing game that has been hit or miss, we just did not have the same team we did at the begining of the season, and did not have an easy time figuring out how to get the ball down field.

This, and the fact that re: the OP, the Pokes are a team like us whose final record doesn't actually reflect their quality and good coaching. They had as many injuries as us and almost as much youth at key positions, and yet they beat some good teams, got robbed of a win vs. UT, and played OU even closer than we did. I think they were unlucky to hit a rising Baylor last when they were out of juice. The Pokes are a well coached ball club. My way too early projection for the contenders in next year's conference race is the Frogs, OSU, and OU [just because they're OU].

Tech lost to KState 55-24 the week after our OT game.

On that day Oklahoma State played much better. It happens, especially when your team is young and inconsistent.

Also, Stillwater is a surprisingly difficult place to grab a win these days. In the past three years only UT, OU and Nebraska have done so, and UT kinda stole that game.

I think you're a little too high on OSU, but generally not a bad post.

Yep. We were rolling in the 2nd half and had a chance to put things away but as seems to be the norm we made some very conservative and predictable calls inside the 20 and had to settle for FGs. The turnover in the first half followed by the onside kick also proved costly. We should kicked their tails by at least 14 points.

OSU got us good in the 2nd half, only game that we were out of in the 4th quarter, this young beat up team needed a bye mid season

That was the first game in a five game streak in which our offense has looked really bad. We've only had three legitamate touchdown drives by our offense over the past five games. The Oklahoma State defensive coaches seemed to figure something out about our offense that every team we've faced since has copied.

I wonder if by the OSU game, opposing coaches finally had enough game tape on Boykin that they could effectively game plan based on what they had seen he could and could not do passing the ball.

Our third down conversion rate in the last five games was downright horrid, something like sub 30%. We made opposing defenders look as good as TCU, but that was even true vs KU......but at least the first seven games we had a pretty decent third down rate....
