Better kick removes chance for blown call. I think it was good, but unfortunately this was another inaccurate kick relative to where it should have been.

Couldn't tell if it was good or bad. On a 32 yard kick he shouldn't be kicking it right over the top of the upright.

I honestly couldn't tell. There was no good camera angle. Since it was over the top of the upright, you'd have to have a camera at the bottom of the upright.

Actually, they should put a small camera at the top of the upright that tracks the ball. Now that would be a great shot in situations like this.

We are in debt up to our ears and you are asking for more money for teachers!?!? Most cannot afford to pay higher property taxes, if you or if they don't like what they are paid join the private sector and learn what it means to earn your money. Teachers are paid what the market can bear, this is not to belittle what they do, but they perform work that is easier than what is expected in the private sector.

Wasn't the author of the face-palm but teachers are being paid precisely what their market value is. Precisely. If the market would bear more, they would be paid more. And, show me one study not funded by a teachers union that makes a statistically valid connection between increasing teacher pay and student performance. Or for that matter, a study that shows that 22-1 student teacher ratio yields any greater performance than 29-1. I will stipulate that 30-1 plus has shown detriment. As of the time of my father's retirement from superintendency (five years ago), these studies didn't exist. On the list of things holding back excellence in education, teacher pay is way, way down the list. Don't know anything about officials pay but I surmise that they also are paid precisely what their market value is.

And I'm not saying we need to be dumping more money into public education. It's about reallocation.

I apologize for diverting this away from football. I'm going to shut up. My point should've stayed focused on refs. Being a ref would be a pretty sweet job, but I have no interest in that pressure when I hear my ceiling is around $70K.

No apology needed. Education is a vitally important issue and worthy of debate. Self-evidently, education is the reason there is a Horned Frog football team. My only point on student-teacher ratio is that you could pay more to quality teachers if you weren't arbitrarily required to hire more and more teachers to meet a state-mandated ratio. So on this, you and I agree.

Where I'm not sure I can agree with you is on the "ref" job being pretty sweet. Has zero-level appeal to me as it relates to football. Now for baseball....that's an entirely different thing.
