Random lack of discipline or good scheme?

What was the deal with the various mishaps on the part of our D. Several times we just failed to cover a guy. At least 1 passing TD for OU was a result of blown coverage. And the long running TD was a lack a gap discipline. There were other mishaps that only resulted in first downs. These struck me as very uncharacteristic of our D the last half of the season.

Was this a lack of focus on our part, or did OU exploit something?

I noticed it at as well... there were two plays in a row at one point where the receiver was covered by nobody. One would have gone for big yardage if Landry hadn't thrown the ball low.

I'm guessing that OU's formations/movements fooled that young defense. They ain't chopped liver, you know? :tongue:

We brought a blitz with zone coverage. OU qb found the open man on the outside who made a quick move and used his power burst to move up field. Blitz packages are good if they can bring pressure on qb. However, Landry is smart and recognized it got rid of the ball with a quick outside pass.

On the long run, I believe Olabode had the gap that the OU RB ran through.

We had a hard time with the quick motion by the back when we were in man coverage. I'm not sure what plays in particular you guys are talking about but that specific play-motion was giving us fits. I know one time when Cain blitzed and the back released and we had nobody covering him which they hit for big yards. Think that one was probably either a screw up by Cain not coming off the blitz to chase-pick him up or we lost flats integrity because DB's didn't see him and squeezed to close to the middle. I'll have to go back and watch it. I would have liked to see us check to a zone when they did that a few times but we seemed to be content to move the LB out with him and chase every time. GP and DB know much more than me tho' so I'm content with what they thought was best.

The long run doesn't spring like that if they don't manhandle-bearhug McFarland on the end. He couldn't get any width because he was being held. We should have had an LB scrape there but he didn't show and the safety was nowhere to be seen. BTW, why did Mallett only get a few snaps? Think him being out hurt us a little bit

Wonder if he was being disciplined or if he was hurt in practice this week? Don't wish to fault anyone's efforts but we lost some speed and effectiveness with him on the sidelines.

He looked fine on the sidelines... saw him congratulating Hasley once and then went over to talk to Hasley when he limped off the field at one point.

Is it me, or do we really struggle against the no- huddle offense? Other than that, I didnt read those long posts, it's late.

Thought I hear HCGP say on post game presser TD pass before half time "was result of a screw up by a couple of freshmen " or something like that.
