I don't trust any motorist these days. I do a lot of bike rides out on the streets, and its crazy how many motorists aren't paying attention. Something you truly notice when you are on the road biking.

I got hit by a guy in a roundabout on my bike in Keller back in October and he acted like it was my fault.

I don't even ride by bike on sidewalks or shoulders anymore because while I might be holding up traffic riding on the road, at least drivers can see me. I feel like I am invisible when I ride on a sidewalk or shoulder. I'd rather have angry cars behind me upset that they can't pass me, than get hit by someone not paying attention to the sidewalk/shoulder. I've had too many close calls.

And its not just those not paying attention, some just like to harass cyclists. Just this morning I was biking back from the mid cities to Fort Worth and some jackass in a pickup truck decided to buzz me on Handley-Ederville Road(which is a 3 lane road). The road was empty except for me and the truck, he could have picked any lane, I was in the far right side of the right lane, and he decided to buzz me(my left elbow was maybe 6 inches away from the truck) and honk his horn. I guess he had nothing better to do on a Saturday Morning than harass cyclists. This startled me and caused me to swerve to the right off the road and crash, and the spikes on my bike chain gear stabbed me about 25 places in the back of my right calf as well as completely tear the skin off my left ankle.

The amount of weird [ Finebaum ] that you say you've seen, heard, been a part of, know about, etc seems enough to fill a dozen lifetimes.

Was I supposed to type something here?

I sold my CBR900RR many years ago for the simple reason that drivers were 1.) Insane, 2.) Inattentive, and 3.) Gobsmackingly stupid. And, I will add, I sold my beast of a bike before the cell-phone was a constant companion. Now, with the roads crowded with literally twice the number of cars, and the percentages of those cars driven by deranged lunatics checking their Facebook, I don't feel truly safe perched up in my F-250 if I am driving in Houston.

I forget the motorcyclist author who coined the phrase, but it is apropos to modern driving conditions: "Are you paranoid enough?"

if i had a dollar for every time i saw some idiot drifting all over the road, cutting people off, basically being a menace to society in a vehicle and they had a cell phone in hand either talking on speaker or reading something on the screen i would be half way to sweat's tax bracket

Interesting that you can say almost exactly the same about the drifting bicyclers who make driving on some roads around TCU an adventure. And have you ever, EVER, seen a bicycler actually stop at a stop sign?

I'm a retired firefighter - big city to the east. I used to tell the rookies that working a wreck on Central of LBJ was more dangerous than being buried-up in a 5-alarm fire. On Friday and Saturday nights, probably half of the drivers whizzing by the wreck we were working were legally drunk, desperately trying to get the equally drunk girl they just picked-up at the bar home before she sobers up. It's why we routinely blocked off extra lanes of traffic to give us an empty lane for a buffer so we could extricate victims, extinguish fires, and not have to constantly worry some knucklehead was going to take us all out. There were plenty of close calls, moments where fresh underwear was needed, but nobody was injured or died on my watch. But for the grace of God...

(If the pissed off motorists could see the road from our perspective, they wouldn't be so quick to complain.)

This is a very odd set of facts. Evidently Haskins was crossing several lanes of a freeway in a limited access area at night. Tragically, it appears he was struck by a dump truck. Police are still investigating the circumstances. It’s possible he was trying to take a shortcut to the airport

Confused. Someone else said this. Shortcut by ditching the car and Usain Bolting it to the check-in counter?

those signs are for cars silly

"Bicyclists must yield the right of way under the same conditions as motor vehicles. Therefore, a bicyclist must yield the right of way to pedestrians. They must also stop at stop signs and obey traffic lights.

Riders must signal turns and travel with the flow of traffic. They should also yield the right of way when directed to do so by a yield sign. When entering a lane of traffic, the bicyclist must yield the right of way to oncoming traffic in the lane."

Possibly after turning in a rental car? If he were impatient for the shuttle or late for his flight? The Steelers are saying he was catching a flight back to Pittsburg and the story indicates the incident was near the airport. As I said, it’s an odd set of facts. I’m sure as the investigation continues we’ll learn more. Whatever the case he made a poor decision crossing a highway like that but when you’re 24 you think you’re immortal

I think Eight was joking

Gotcha. That makes sense.

Didn't you get hit by a car in Vegas too?
