Quick question about the Mavericks

What does it take for tomorrow night's game to mean anything in the standings? Don't Utah and Phoenix both have to win tonight? Or Utah OR Phoenix?

Dallas (54-27)
Denver (53-28)
Phoenix (52-28)

Dallas holds the tiebreakers over Phoenix and Denver.
Utah holds the tiebreaker over Dallas.

If Utah loses at Golden State tonight, Dallas locks up the #2 spot.
If Utah wins tonight, Dallas will need to beat the Spurs tomorrow night or they need Utah to lose to Phoenix tomorrow night.

It will be interesting to see how teams play the next two days trying to slot up with the best matchup in the first round. With Roy hurt, the Trailblazers look to be the best matchup for anyone in the first round.

Also, this is a WIDE open field and that includes the Lakers. Aside from OKC because of inexperience and Portland because of injuries, anyone else could realistically win the West.

Actually Denver could win twice and what Utah does is then irrelevant.

Also if Denver wins tonight then the Mavs wrap up the second seed. Denver Holds the tiebreaker with Utah therefore they would win the division in a tie. Dallas owns the tiebreaker again Denver because of head to head contests and Utah because division winner is first tiebreaker for seeding.

So, in tonight's games, I am rooting for the Jazz and for Phoenix, if I want the game tomorrow night to be watchable (i.e., for the starters to play)? Is that correct?

No game is meaningful for the mavs because once they get in the playoffs they fold every year...great records to keep the fans on the edge of their seats only to fall flat on their faces come time when its actually impotant to win.

Thanks,

That has been pretty much true except for the years when the Mavs get to face the Spurs.

You don't even have to be a hater to agree with this. I am a mavs fan and agree.

And I think the Fakers are in the same mode as when the Bulls made their runs. They will turn it up a notch in the post season. Don't assume what you have seen of them is what you will see come playoff time.
