Question for Killer Frog Fans

Do you think our new AD in his fence mending over the past year asked Sonny find replacements for Briles and Kaz or is it a coincidence? I think a lot of good will was lost when Briles was hired among the big donors as well as the regular fans. Was this a way to correct the problem or did both need to go regardless?

I can’t really answer but I just want to say that the hiring of Briles (regardless of all the other stuff surrounding him) was still one of the worst cases of self own and not being able to read the room that I’ve ever seen.

I thought Kaz would be great but it seems, aside from better injury prevention maybe, that his tenure did not lead to any increased physicalness by our players, for the most part.

Was I supposed to type something here?

I can't imagine he wasn't a primary driver in clearing out the Baylor trash. The big donors who were alienated by the hire, and by the attitude of the former AD, probably put out feelers to the New Guy and explained the situation to him. Sonny is on his last year under contract, and he has lost every bit of the stroke he had after his first year, and much of that is due to his hubris in hiring Briles. Methinks a Riot Act was read out...

Sonny has three years left on his contract.

Hard to believe Briles and Kaz leaving are coincidence.

Kaz was with Dykes at SMU and came here with him.

I can understand the Briles hire for Dykes based on the personal history and Briles has been a successful OC with years of experience.

But Dykes had to know the feelings here about Briles and Baylor and that there would be fallout and people ticked off over Briles coming on staff. Good lord. Ignorance or arrogance, either way it was a bad move.

The air is cleared finally. Now the direction taken on offense is Monty Python --- something completely different. I have to think this is Buddie influence as well coming from the NE.

We will see.

When Sonny made the decision to hire Briles, a friend of mine in the Development Department (sorry can't divulge name) said there were some significant donations lost immediately to the school. One donor they had been working with for years said "no more". Said there had been a few "events" where donors had pushed back...such as the Drag Queen class.....that had cost the school some big money......and the Briles hire was one of those events.

Yep, it was truly a bone-headed decision by Sonny. Coming off his great first year, he could have hired anyone he wanted, but instead he chose Briles...against the advice of many. His ego over-ruled common sense.

Administration also gets part of the blame for not stepping in and telling Sonny to find someone else.

I'm cautiously optimistic that Sonny has seen the light. Whether he figured it out on his own or Buddie/big donors sat him down and helped him see the light.....hard to know.

That bone headed decision cost TCU at least 20% of the discount rack close-out t-shirt sales.
UT is back, Tech is on a roll so it's tough sledding for most t-shirt fans looking for discounts.
Thank goodness there's always Baylor.

I think the same donors who were pissed about how GMFP was fired were pissed about the Baylor hires. So getting rid of the Baylor hires would give both the pissed donors and the admin an easy off ramp to get the whole gang back together and on track again. I had way more issue with Kaz than Briles, but I know many were disgusted by both. Now it’s all over and time to see if the money donors jump in with both feet or if this was all just a game of finding the next objection to making major donations.

It was time for both to move on but it’s not some Baylor purge.

It’s just business

Y’all are mistaken if you think there are millions on the sidelines bc Kendal Briles worked here

I think it’s a coincidence. Neither was a great look for Dykes. The offense had flashes of brilliance and long stretches of just disaster. I think Dykes came very close to firing the ex-OC several times over the past years. This year he couldn’t ignore the mess anymore. The new OC for SC is highly thought of in coaching circles, but it never worked for TCU. As far Roid Rage I think it was also a results issue. His teams have always struggled to finish. We looked soft. I also think injuries were an issue.

If the AD is telling a coach who to hire and fire that AD shouldn’t be leading, and that coach needs to leave.

Yep.

I think probably the only way you're gonna get those guys totally back is by getting rid of Dykes. It has little to do with coaching and a lot to do with other stuff.
Between winning the bowl game, getting 3 stud seniors to suit up and play, and the fact that we have the lowest number of guys in the portal of any Big 12 team I have a new respect for Dykes.

If you believe the press Briles leveled up by going to the SEC.

Not sure what is up w Kaz. I was skeptical of anyone w Baylor ties but I felt that everyone staying healthy was a big part of the magic of 2022. Since then he hasn't impressed me and we need monsters in the trenches. Even if we don't lose 2-3 stupid games this last year we still get destroyed by BYU and probably crushed in the playoffs.

Kazadi faded over the last 3 years. It is obvious that Kazadi was not engaged in '23,'24'25 like he was in '22.

Kazadi= Steam/Alpha Loss. Dude had some kind of inability to Affect the athletes like he did in 22.

Ummm....On some post in the last 1-2 weeks, the prospect was raised that somehow Tape Fingers (2023-2025) was brought to campus for the purpose of sabotaging the program....Kaz, who had that contentious conversation with a hard-core Frog fan after Baylor lost to TCU ("nice job, Big 12" before the Frogs were members) and was BU's strength coach until 2021, was newly hired at TCU for the 2022 season....Maybe disengagement in '23-'25 was also a sabotage effort ....Baylor was only 1-10 after the co-championship with TCU in 2014--including 0-5 this century.... I do like the sense of security and superiority this Reynolds Wrap hat provides me....
