Question About New Coaching Hires (From AU, Kansas, and Tex HS)

I am excited about the possible increase in recruiting traction. We've improved, but not quite as much as I think we will after we win(or come close to winning) the B12 for a string of years. I have a theory that Patterson was disappointed in the sales job his recruiters were doing the last two years, and is investing some of our B12 dollars into recruiting.

(A) anybody share these thoughts/has anyone heard this?

(B) does anyone think our new hires are an improvement over what we had last year?

(C) if "yes" to (B), will that manifest itself into closing on more of our number 1 guys?

Again, not a troll post. I'm excited for the class we have in right now, but imagine if Patterson had this class plus about 3-4 of a few of the number one guy he was after! We're not far from that, and I wonder if these new hires will help close.

Patterson told our old recruiters to put he coffee down. Coffee is for closers.

A.) I think they new hires are pretty great and I'm looking forward to how it translates both on and off the field.

B.) Patterson is still adapting the way he recruits

Sure hope so. I think our class is great so far, but we have whiffed on recruiting LB's that past few years and unless our true freshman are ready to play we will be struggling at depth for that position. I do believe PJ Dawson and Mallett can be more than serviceable though.

Serious question...I know its been reported that Coach Luper is an outstanding recruiter, but how do we know? He has not recruited to TCU yet. It is quite a bit easier to recruit to Auburn, I would guess, than TCU. In Alabama, its Alabama then Auburn. Here we have to compete with Texas and A&M and even now Baylor. And then, for some reason, tech. I hope he is all that has been reported and I am excited about the hire. After all, he already brought us one top recruit....his son.

I think our LB recruiting really struggled this year since we didn't have Tademy around and since Shannon wasn't fully invested in the program.

With coaches Cross and Luper around (and a 9+ win regular season in 2013) I think we'll have a very solid class next year.

Go watch him on YouTube, that was enough to convince me...

These were good moves but moves necessitated by 2 very good recruiters leaving not because Patterson was disenchanted with either.

I like the hires but this was not done because of anything other than timing and getting the best available to fill open positions.

New blood is never a bad thing, but these openings were necessitated but other opportunities presented to members of Patterson's staff. This is good thing. Not only is he good turning high school athletes into NFL talent but he also developing his coaches. Success breeds success in my book.

Be nice to have a great closer, especially if he can evaluate as well as some we have. Actually the '09,'10 and "11 classes were the weak ones. Pachall with maybe Boyce may be the only ones to play in the NFL. Boyce would have been a slam dunk if he stayed another year, but I don't know now. Projected 5th round.
2010 may have been our best ever, ranking with 1985 and 1965.

I know we missed on some top targets, but we landed some as well. I think "struggled" is a bit harsh. Sammy Douglas was one of our very first offers and was our first commit. Might be the single most underrated recruit in the state. He was the 5A Defensive MVP for TX. Nothing to sneeze at. Paul Whitmill is a 4-star recruit on ESPN. He's a little short to be a traditional LB, but most scouts seem to think he has the tools to keep playing LB in college. CGP will probably use him in the SS hybrid spot. Dac Shaw is also a stud. He needs to put on about 10 lbs, and Sammy needs to put on at least 25 before they can play full games, but I think both will see the field this season.

The hiring of Kenny Perry as the HS liasion is huge IMO. He is very well respected HC in the Texas HS ranks. I imagine he is very well connected with a lot of HS coaches, especially in DFW. I really like this move by GP and glad Kenny accepted.

I'd heard rumors but haven't seen anything concrete on this. Has it been confirmed? If so, you're right. He'd be a slam dunk hire.

The new coaches should have an impact in recruiting and the practice field. Luper is known to be a super recruiter and Cross should help also. I think Perry should help us develop even better connections with HS coaches.

I wouldn't be so sure. Auburn recruits nationally, when they can. There aren't enough players in their immediate neighborhood to field the sort of team that they expect to field.

'Bama is probably first in their state, particularly right now with the success Saban is having. But LSU, Florida, and Georgia, among others, are nearby. Not so long ago Tennessee was a major player on the recruiting scene in that part of the world, and may be again soon (assuming they are not, now).

I am optimistic about Coach Luper's hire.
