Possible coaches if changes are made

Give Garrett Riley his first HC position.

I wouldn’t be against it, but we need some commitment to defense at some point. You shouldn’t score 42 and lose. Yes the offense gave up a lot of points off turnovers, but the defense has not forced a punt in nearly 6 quarters, which also includes 94 points.

We can make all the coaching changes in the world. Nothing will change until we start recruiting better players. Sonny is the exact same coach he was two years ago. The players, mainly offensive, were the difference. I'm not saying the staff deserves to stay if we keep performing poorly. I just think we have more of a personnel issue than most believe. How many above average players do we have outside of QB and WRs? Yes, part of a staff's job is to develop the players, but not every player can be developed into greatness. We need players who are already talented enough to be great quickly.
The nil is kicking our butt and it will only get worse. That is why we might need another Patterson who can develop from the leftovers. If the nil is not checked or stopped there won’t be a big 12 as the Ohio state Michigan Texas A&M alabama Oklahoma and other big schools will buy us out of players. It’s happening right now and we are losing players because of it.

Anybody who thinks the problem is Kendall Briles is a moron. The offense play calling is not the problem. It’s the defense and the o line.

He’s a lightning rod who distracts people from the real problems. The last 2 games were historically bad defensively after our last D coordinator got fired for not much better.

I’m not advocating firing or anything of that nature. I stay away from those threads.

Wanted to start this just to know of who might be out there that we could realistically look at or get if changes in the staff were to be made, not saying they will be.

Other than Kinne, who else may be out there that could be a good move? May have to add coordinators too given today’s performances thus far.
You are a bit premature with one outstanding obstacle in place. It's called TCU. In all my years, I've never witnessed a quick decision from TCU, especially if the subject is the head coach with a relatively new contract. . Many people knew about GP before GP so that was no shock.

We flat-out got lucky with GP turning in his performance. However TCU's record does not speak well in choosing the right head coach,. Some will disagree but we had the right AD making solid decisions for TCU in DelConte. He I would trust BTW...Gary, thank you!

As I mentioned on game day, what Dykes has to do, he's not the one who can do the job. Record speaks poorly of his decisions. Dykes does a job going after ref's on questionable calls

Was I supposed to type something here?

Play calling is hardly stellar. Offensive execution isn't the greatest, especially in our anemic run game. Player evaluation and development is also substandard.

"But they scored all these points!" Why, yes. Yes they did. I will point to the UCF match, when we ran wild in the first half. That didn't continue in the second half because they made adjustments. Adjustments we had no answer for. To be certain, always having to out-score opponents because the defense can't even manage to get in opponents way is hard, it's even harder when your opponent decodes your schemes and you have no counter adjustments.

TCU just made a big deal about Sonny and his wife donating a million towards one of the new projects. Didn't he get a extension after the Georgia blowout? He needs to go but he probably gets another year after this one to drive the program into the dirt.

It’s been all down hill since beating Michigan. You get destroyed Georgia and then follow that up by opening the next season with a loss to Colorado and miss a bowl game. Now this. Dykes was bailed out by Duggan and Patterson players. He's a mediocre coach with a mediocre record who made it further than he should have in this occupation because of who his dad was.

I agree they never make quick decisions. However, think about the unthinkable....

Here we are on the first day of fall 2024. I have looked at the schedule and to me, the only winnable games with this program are Houston and Cincinnati. We will receive their best shot and they'll be amped to play TCU. Tech and Baylor look like they've improved. Baylor may have found a QB in Sawyer Robinson.

The unthinkable ? We lose all the rest of our games. This would force the Academic bureaucrats to act quicker and make decisions under a nationwide traditional model. NOT a TCU hunky dory way.

Cincy on the road looking tougher after 34-0 drubbing of Houston.

I wonder if Nebraska is about to make Coach Rhule available. Or so uncomfortable that he is ready for milder winters?

Assuming $$$ doesn't make it impossible, could he be worth a look?
