With everyone making travel plans to the bowl game...I thought I would pass along some good advice I remember getting from the bartender at my hotel bar three years ago for the Fiesta Bowl. Phoenix cops and the cops in the surrounding burbs don't play around when it comes to DWI, as they have numerous checkpoints. They is especially true during the holidays. Take a cab while hitting the town, which worked out great in our nightly jaunts to the Scottsdale entertainment district. Locals must take the cabs when hitting the town too because they were lined up like a casino in Vegas.

Assume they also still have the radar / cameras stationed in several locations on the various highways out there. I was once invoiced by a rental car company for a speeding ticket they received while I was renting the car.

Isn't this in the county (Maricopa), where the sheriff houses all the jailmates in tents and makes them wear pink jump suits?

Not that there's anything wrong with wearing a pink jump suit.....

Also, the state where you may need to prove you are an American citizen. In other words...we need to have our documentation and obey all laws.

Yep, sucks real bad. Use electrical tape to change slightly the license plate of rental car; claim no knowledge if questrioned about this. Best legal advice...

If you drive around with a valid driver's license, no worries.

Expecting immigrants or those on a work visa to have a valid ID is so crazy considering that US citizens are required to do so.

I remember from the Fiesta Bowl the goofy cameras on the freeway everwhere. The locals I was with told me to slow down because they knew where the cameras were. Never got a ticket. The out of towners probaly get 99% of the tickets since they dont move the cameras. Rip off.

Just giving Arizona a hard time with their strict enforcement of speeding, drinking, and having an ID. It's all good.

US citizens are not required to cary ID unless operating a vehicle that requires a license or going somehwere (such as the airport) where confirmation is necessary.

But back to the original post......I've been working in AZ for a year now and have not gotten any tickets mailed to me. I was primarily on 17 going to/from Flagstaff.

Now if anybody ever goes to Cedar Rapids, IA then watch out. Most of us got at least 1 ticket in the year or so I was working up there.

Most of the cameras are gone. Everyone figured out you don't pay them until they persoally serve you at your door. Huge Fail by the state for sure.

Yes, don't drink and drive. If you refuse to blow they will take you to a judge, issue a warrant, and take blood. Even if its 3AM. You will then spend three days in Sherriff Joe's tent city in the middle of the desert. Take a cab if you have had more than a few.

They can only ask you to show proof of citizenship if you are suspected of committing a crime you are a witness to a crime. The police can not randomly pull you over to ask for ID.

Another crazy law is that no permit is needed to carry or conceal a gun. Wild West.

I recomend everyone come out for the game if you can. Great weather this time of year and the ASU stadium is close to everything. Great hotels, bars, golf courses, and casinos. Much better location than Glendale.
