This negotiation done by the same guy who advised you to stock the hell up on Zima before demand exploded.
Ed: and if Zima was too rich, go all in on Seagrams Golden Wine Coolers.

He's like the 30th highest paid coach in the country and we probably have the NIL dollars somewhere in the 30's as well, maybe in the 40's. What should expectations be?

I think there's this thought that he's one of the highest paid guys out there and is totally underachieving. It's just not true.
He took us to the Natty. I’m good with it.

I don’t see the issue. He’s doing better than most and TCU isn’t stacking his roster with money like Tech and others. Unless the money changes I’m not sure where you get anyone better.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the key is the NIL. I really don't think the Texas Tech coach is all that great, but they had Cody Campbell spending boatloads. We complain about coaching all day long, but the bottom line is money for the NIL. Either you have it or you don't.
Wondering if part of the deal included committments for raising those funds.

I think all-in-all he's performed better than his peers over the course of his career here. He had a bad year a few years ago when there was an enormous talent drain due to the previous staff whiffing on two straight recruiting classes. It happens. Matt Campbell went 4-8 in 2022. Kyle Whittingham went 5-7 in 2024.
Wex is exactly right! — 2023 was a bad season for 2 reasons (1) GP’s last two recruiting classes were crap. (2) The transfer portal window for the ‘23 season was during the ‘22 season playoffs, and Dykes didn’t have the bandwidth to prepare for the playoffs and recruit for the portal at the same time.
Other than that:
- Dykes’ 1st transfer portal class for the ‘22 season was an A+ and a huge reason why TCU went to the Natty.
- Dykes also had two straight 9-4 seasons in ‘24/‘25. While we all hope for double digit wins, 9-4 is still better than average.
Sonny has been a B or B+ coach so far, and this will be an important year to see if he is one of the most consistent producing coaches in the B12.

Its definitely a big part, but you still need a good coach to put it all together or you'll get embarrassed on national TV just like Tech did in the playoffs or how the Aggies are every year.

Hell yeah! Tech is the goal!

Make the playoff and get embarrassed cuz your coach sucks.

Morton has and always sucked too, but the coach is the one that put him there.
